Tino26 Posted October 6, 2014 Report Share Posted October 6, 2014 The day started out with high hopes to drive around Niagara south looking for a spot/bush/hunting grounds so I could go walking to do some scouting and enjoy a rainy day... By the end of my driving (3 1/2 hours later) and a muddy truck, just between bigger road and netherby road region I didn't see anything except no trespassing/hunting signs. WOW! So much wasted space in the southend of Niagara Falls alone... So disappointing. There could be some awesome ground out there for small game, deer, geese, ducks and or maybe turkey. I did happen to find a nice spot I could check out which looks like the Willoughby Marsh, even if it's for a walk, but I'm not sure if it's private land or the Marsh... Anyone know where I can get a better map for this marsh so I don't get into any trouble with the land owners surrounding the marsh? So Disappointed. Gotta keep tryin' I guess. Frank81 Posted October 7, 2014 Report Share Posted October 7, 2014 Same issue here, had friends bug me to finally get my licensing and buy my firearms and whatever else I needed and here I am fully licensed, tags, crossbow and shot gun ready to go and no where to hunt. Money is getting tight, and since this stuff is only getting used for shooting the occasional targets, it looks like I may just sell all of it just as fast as I bought it. We are actually heading up fri to scout for deer and hunt moose for a week (2 cow tags). Then we head back up mid nov for the rut (10 days). 100% crown land with no non resident hunting. In three years all I've managed to score is a duck, a few doves and some squirrel. Twice now I've lined up some private land only to have them change their minds last minute, one was all gung ho about letting me shoot some rabbits on her land then Sandyhook happened and suddenly she was all anti-guns and claimed she'd never given me any such permission -- oh well. I'll keep trying but damn this isn't what I had hoped for. Also, Tino, to answer your original question, if you email the NPCA they will send you a kml/kmz file with all the borders for their properties. You can then overlay that on top of Google maps or drop it into whatever GPS you use. However just be aware that the border of their property isn't necessarily the same as where you can shoot. For example in the Wainfleet Bog there's a decent sized area near the parking lot where you are not allowed to hunt, or with the Wainfleet Wetlands / Clay Pits you can only hunt the east side. smerchly Posted October 7, 2014 Report Share Posted October 7, 2014 I used to hunt just a 100 meters or so from my backyard . ...got my first rabbit with my 20 gauge Cooey . It's all a subdivision now....same with the fields & grapes across the road....all housing now. Most of my old hunting areas are closed now , along the lake shore and all the spots we hunted to 7th St. I changed from small game to moose hunting and traveled to west of Thunder Bay to hunt to have a better chance at getting a cow or bull tag . My cuz. has been trying to get a tag for 20 years to hunt moose near Noelville Ont. with zero success . I packed it in about 8 years ago . Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It's crazy how much bush there is out there with not even a house on a certain block. I have my map marked as some possible land out there to possible explore but I still have to find the people that own the property or if it's public land. If I go to the city will they let me know if it's public land or private? If private will they actually let me know who owns it??? Thanks for your help. I tried to call the Niagara municipality but it was a headache to get a straight answer , it was like no one wanted to take on the responsibility of being wrong. I was talking to a guy randomly in Canadian tire one day and he was telling me he was hunting the airstrip on sodom right off the qew. I guess the birds were getting in the way of the planes and it was more of a chore than anything. Coyotes are becoming quite a problem that way and that could be your in to some land. Take care of some of them in exchange for deer or spring Turkey , just a thought. I'm sure there will be some door you knock on that will give a novice a shot (no pun intended). Down here I knocked on a ton of doors before getting permission to hunt on two properties for turkey. The OFAH actually has a landowner permission form that you can print off as well which is a good idea. I believe another problem are people who just don't give a crap about abiding by the rules. I have seen way too many people trespass while out hunting. Last year alone, there were two occasions where I had a "hunter" trying to sneak up on my turkey decoys while I have sole permission to be on the property. Then there's the whole garbage issue just like the fishing spots. People get fed up and just say to hell with it, not letting anyone on the land. I own a peice of property that's loaded with deer and every year I catch or see ppl sneaking in or actually catch them hunting ... I always gets the " I have permission from the owner" I laugh and say " well that's funny because I am the owner and I don't knoe you " they usually leave right away but I have it well posted and follow all rules etc but it's discusting !!! I hear you Bubba14 we hunt turkey in a spot that we have full permission to hunt just before turkey season started we went to scout things out and there was guys working putting up wind mills well we can't do anything about that but we had a lot of toms there but by the time we started to hunt the birds were gone just a few around couldn't figure out what was going on then we were hunting one morning well we found out what was going on there was some guys that were working on the wind mill came to work early and they were hunting before work we went after them and they just laughed at us told us get lost we went to the land owner he couldn't believe it and he don't live near the land so he don't know whose in there he was going to check into it but we never wen't back because of all the work going on back there so we will see what happens this spring Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
