OK here goes
Do or Die time
The President Jerry thinks that Sept 24/07 the general meeting will host the nominations. It may be Oct 22 but either way it's time to start considering a hobby in the local sporting club. Elections aren't until November 26th. You do not need to be there to accept a nomination as long as you indicate by letter that you are willing to stand before hand. You can nominate by your choices by mail but the person needs to be present or submit the forementioned letter.

Who can be nominated?

Well to run for President, the bi-laws say you must have sat on the BOD for 2 years prior. The President (Jerry Barnett) has indicated he believes he can and will waive that bi-law. That means that any member will be able to be nominated and run. Thank you Jerry. The SCGFA have been hanging on by a thread wayyyy too long. It's definitely time for the current exec to cut that thread and see where it lands. Hopefully it is caught by someone interesting enough to attract some people of the same likeness.

Jerry and Dagmar will no longer be running this club come January.
If I could I would gladly turn this club in a new direction but I can't stand :D I will stand in Fort Erie. Who will stand in SC? Hopefully there are some good people lurking who realize this isn't as hard of a job as it seems. The exec meeting is an hour and a half before the general so it's like 9 meetings a year. Nothing has to be done but pay the taxes etc. The ramp, derby, kids day etc doesn't have to happen and can't if volunteers don't step forward.

The least that needs to happen and hasn't in the last 2 years is someone needs to be appointed to communicate with the OMNR and make reports. One person needs to report on OFAH activities. One person needs to communicate with the media and political representatives. If we are nothing more than a gathering place to inform the public of whats going on and voice their oppinion back, than we are a great success :D

So who's willing to wield a gavel and order that degenerate to shut up while we educate the public.

PLEASE don't fill this thread with I can'ts or I would buts...... I've already covered that. Please share your ideas of who or whats??? It doesn't take much of your time if you don't let it. Meetings can be cancelled if you and others can't make it and the old folks have said they will train/coach if asked and you know who wants to be derby chairman.

My selections so far:
President: Nittro (Jerry M)
Vice: Live2Fish (Bowen S)Youngest Vice in History starting in 1932
Treasurer: Bill Andrews (The Smerch :P ) of coarse Sandy would help.
Secretary: Bigugly (Don't bring me dowwwwwn....Bruce)

Second choices:
Treasurer or Secretary: Dawn Furrier and Al Oleksuik
Vice: Rob Mac or Tom Copeland or Canadude (if only he were a member)
President: Pat B (The MC for KIDS DAY)

3rd choices:
President: Doug F
Vice: Jim A
Treasurer: Charlie
Secretary: Percy

Well what do you think? You all know what's behind door number three. About 10 truckloads of spawning bed to fill in the ramp :D If I don't see some of these people behind the desk in January I won't renew my membership. At the least I hope I see them giving an accurate report on the MNR or OFAH. If any of you lurkers would like to bring a club back to St Catharines please say so now. We like the strong silent type too! :Gonefishing:

For us at NFN consider this. Whatever happens to the SCGFA will have a deep impact upon sport fishing in the region, let alone Port. The club, in aging, is very much a hidden and obscure organization. It needs new bodies, ideas and blood, It has to become a serious organization once again or disappear. The latter option will foster serious consequences and loss for years to come. The choice is ours.

Bruce is right and the time for an overhaul is now.

If you have the slightest interest please don't make a decision now. I'd rather people investigate with caution then just jump right in and quit when they run into something unexpected. You have from now until Sept 24th to think about it and show some interest.

If anyone here would like more info on how or what any club exec position is expected to do, email/pm me or contact the club and ask for Tom Copeland, Jerry Barnett, Bill Ball or Dagmar/Bruce Miller. These people will explain how things work. It's not hard at all and although a 2 year commitment is expected, there are no chains or penalties to prevent you from leaving if you find you've made a mistake.

The executive makes the decisions and their appointed directors do the work. I can't stand for the executive but I can surely serve as your director if you run. I'm not sure if that makes it any easier for anyone but if you want me I'm always available to help.

Just a little reminder that the SCGAF has its first meeting on Monday Sept. 24th. at the clubhouse in Port, 7:30pm.

There has been also sorts of discussion, talk, complaints and accusations. It all gets us nowheres because talk is cheap. Game & Fish needs people to step up and take part. Even if it is only to preserve the fishing in Port. Without the club, the stocking in spring will disappear and more of the waterfront will be gobbled up.
With active members in an active club, many opportunities exist for improving fishing and hunting in Niagara. Better access on the 12 Mile? L. Gibson. A little habitat enhancement at Martindale pond. They are only possible if we participate.

Sit back and do nothing? You lose.

Just wondering if visitors can stop by for one of those meetings to see what it's all about.

The door is always open for anyone interested in determining if club membership is for them.
Every day is a good day. Some are just better than others.

great points guys, same problem with lots of the clubs...I am a trustee for the FECC, and totally agree with lots of the points made here...what any of these clubs need to survive is "new blood"..."younger blood" active members who can get past the opinions of the older members who have been in these clubs forever, are set in thier ways, and don't want to bring these clubs up to the year 2007 and beyond, but lots of these memebrs are aging fast, won't be around long, can't participate the way they used to, and all that's left for the younger folks to see is , for lack of a better way to describe it..a bunch of old farts sitting around having a beer, and making a social club so they can play cards and darts...it's not much of an incentive for any young people to want to come out and join in..specially when they don't see anything the club has to "offer them" and the old farts don't really care about the opinions the young anglers, hunters, and conservationists have to "offer" the clubs, I think the conservation, and wildlife enhancement efforts that most clubs are supposed to be rooted around just got lost in the shuffle, and the only reason half of them still have members is because the older members don't want to give up having an excuse to get out and socialize when it's time for a monthly meeting....it's like a stupid catch 22 kind of thing. I guess it's just up to a few younger people who are willing to put up with a bunch of BS from the old timers just long enough to try and attempt to make changes to these clubs that will in turn attract more young people to want to be "active" members.

And at the same time, it's hard because many younger people have to work, have families, ect and sometimes simply don't have the time compared to a bunch of 70-80 year ol retirees who have "nothing better to do"..but sometimes it is the little things that count, I myslef work, have 3 kids ect..and can't always make it out for 'work party day" or sometimes miss meeting ect, specially this summer because of out of town work projects every week, but I still have found the time to participate in things like this past springs. walleye enhancement project with the MNR on the Grand, and also do a bit of other esearch as far as habitat/wildlife enhancement goes for out pheasant restoration efforts as well.

Just seesm to me that all the simular clubs are having simular problems and it's time for some younger people to step up to the plate...and some older people to step down off thier high horses and realize we are soon approaching the year 2010, and it's not the 60's-70's and 80's anymore. Lots of these older members do deserve a tonne of credit for past efforts in the clubs, and founding these things in the first place, but on the same hand..50 years later, I am sure the box of hero bisquits long since ran out.

The target for these clubs is the 30-40 yr old dudes with kids who want to get into the outdoors!!!!!! Lots of us guys started from learning from our fathers and if we get the dads involved in the clubs aswell as fishing and hunting we got a good chance we get the kids

my 2 cents

well put Canadadude :worthy: :worthy: :worthy: , you hit the nail on the head..speaking as a just under 40 year old memeber of a conservation club, with 3 daughters, that love to camp, fish ect, and spend lots of time doing outdoor activities at our trailer and stuff. ;)

Post reopened after some fancy PMing (the way that crappy stuff should always go first) and some misunderstanding being cleared up. So who's running?

Monday, Nov. 26th. is election day at the Game and Fish. Not much of an election. All officers of the club are being acclaimed.
It is also the annual general meeting. This is our chance to make a difference and get involved to ensure that we have a voice that will represent us with the MNR.
