Hello
I wasn't quite sure which section to post this but after some thought I figured it is fishing related and others may find it helpful by contributing to a warm, comfortable days fishing.

I'm seriously considering purchasing these 'Sorel' Algonquin boots from Marks Work Warehouse. They cost $100 and are rated at -70. I have heard Sorel make quality footwear? Anyone on here have them? Would you recommend them?

There's a place on miller rd (where it meets Doans ridge rd) that has boots rated for -110 for $99. They are listed on kijiji. Try searching there for them. Havnt tried them but was thinking of picking up a pair

Take a look at the Baffin Titan boot. Its an all rubber boot so there is no issue with feet getting wet past a certain point on the boot and they are rated for -100C. Also, they are right here in Stoney Creek if any service issues arise. They retail for $99.99 and are an awesome boot.

Have you looked into Baffin boots ? They make them in Stoney Creek and I heard Marks & Sears carry them . I tend to frown on buying anything made in China like Sorel or Kodiak , guess I'm just "old fashion" :Gonefishing: And, "young" Bowen has a pair & said they were great boots for ice fishing . :D . I would try a few pair of boots on with one pair of wooly socks to make sure the fit is just right with a little room to wiggle the little piggies ! :) I still have a pair of Kodiak snow boots that are 20 years old....made in Canada then.......not so warm now , but good for around the yard etc .

Thanks for all the responses so far everyone. I prefer to support local business if possible. The Baffin's sound like a great deal?

djandthepk, do you think I can get my hands on the boots you speak of?? <_<

Baffins is the word guys. Anything rated at -100c it's best for ice fishing. A fellow member at another board recommended the drillers. I tried them today and let me tell you, they are the most comfortable and warmest thing I have ever worn. And Yes they are CANADIAN made.

My two cents

Don't forget about using your two sock system as well.

Army issue mukluks are great.

Does the Baffin factory in Stoney Creek have an outlet store? Marks doesn't seem to have the selection shown on the Baffin website. If not, where's a good place to find these warm boots.

The first one is to wick away sweat, and an over sock (usually wool) to keep warm.

But hey, I'm sure your idea works too <_<

I have owned sorels (same style) for many years and i can say I will wear no other boots for warmth. In my eyes they are the best can fish on nippissing -35 without a problem they are warm dry or wet. Just spray some watyer proof material on them and your good to go.

The old sorels were great but the new ones are not the same,I bought a pair after they sold out and was dissapointed with there warmth.Baffin is rumoured to be better now.

I just got back from shopping around for snow tires & rims for the pickup ....talk about not having anything in stock ! Typical of the stores lately . and I stopped in at Marks to see what they had in boots......no snow boots in stock , only the all rubber boots ,some with more insulation than others at $60. plus taxes . Maybe a call to the factory can provide some info to where to buy and who might have a decent stock on hand . And as the above post says , I believe these Sorels , Kamik & Deep River boots made in China & Vietnam are not the same quality as the older boots made in Canada . They make a killing on these cheaply made boots now even with all the shipping added . Brand names mean zilch in todays world , one must look at each item carefully & get opinions on the quality & consumer reports etc. before buying ....
