Poison Oak too!

Not only is poison ivy bad this year but so is the poison oak. Poison oak looks much like poison ivy but the leaves are lobed like an oak leaf and always stand upright.

Both have the same effect (extreme dermatitis) but if you wash with soap and water within a couple of hours you should be fine. If you are the type who reacts very badly to these or very quickly there may be an antidote nearby. Jewel weed is a known remedy. The juice will help neutralize the poison ivy/oak. Simply rub the crushed plant on the effected areas of exposure. It is probably better to wash with any water first but in an emergency jewel weed can be your friend.

It must be utilized before the rash breaks out however. Once the rash breaks you better hit the calamine lotion :/

When younger I was told that there is no poison oak in Ontario. I've since googled this and there are articles which state that this is true.
