It seems old Dalt pulled a fast one on us unsuspecting consumers . This may reflect on some of the fishing baits/equipment we buy , will have to check as I buy . Here's an example based on one dollar ........I bought a spray bottle of glass cleaner at CT for $1.00 . On the receipt , 13 cents was added as an eco fee (tax) & then the hst was based on $1.13 which comes to $14.69 cents or rounded off to 15 cents . Total cost , $1.28 which is 28% on the one dollar bottle . A fellow in the store told me there's a fee (tax) on many products now like dish soap & auto liquids . I bought a 4 oz. bottle of ant killer & the eco tax was applied . I just bought a new tire/rim for my boat trailer ,& $5.84 was added which they call a TSF fee (tax) & then the hst charged 13% on that fee . Boy are we getting screwed ,& we don't see this "fee" until it's printed on the receipt . (deceptive, dishonest) . This has prompted me to get my enhanced drivers licence & spend my money in the USA . The new hst is not 13% , it is much more ! Expect to dish out about $32 extra ,plus tax , plus the hst , plus 13% more for the cost of balancing & mounting your tires . This is all in the name of "environment" .....hmmm ,I wonder where all that extra tax money will go ??? And we haven't even begun to tax our "carbon foot prints yet !

Just to let you know the Tire tax was put into effect in Sept 2009 just after I bought the new tires for my truck. If they keep adding taxes the black market will get bigger and Dalton will get less taxes. What do you guys think???????

I knew about the tire tax when you buy new tires , but the tax on the new boat trailer tire was a surprise . And I didn't know they taxed the tax . If you pay $8 per tire x 4 tires , that's $32 ......then they hit that $32 again with the new hst . If you buy a used boat or used car privately , you now pay full hst . I hate that word "harmonized" . They should just drop the H and call it the "sales tax" like they did when they brought in the "temporary" 3% sales tax in Ontarioario . :roflblack:
Basically , this means we will have less disposable income to buy , and that will not help create jobs . If anyone sees the eco/TSF tax applied to fishing/hunting supplies let us know .( electronics) They will try to add many items to the "hazard" lists !

You'll probably have to pay and eco tax on things like lead weights, jig heads, and other such "toxic" materials. Realizing lead is toxic, it's not the same kind of toxic as, say, antifreeze. Anitfreeze will kill you now, lead will take longer. They might even tax spray bottle scents.

I may not be a Canadian, but if I have to start paying an eco tax on plastic floats, you'll see me ordering in from the US real flippin' quick.

Roof patch and roundup yesterday. Some new eco surcharge. The enviro backlash is at it's tipping point.

Welcome to Canadian. The land where the citizens beg to be slaves and love the abuse. Where " please sir, may I have some more" takes on a whole new meaning.
Canadians grovel and groan, then sit on their pathetic Hynies. So we deserve what we get. Look at our 22% Prime Minister!

Not completely true. We would need a full out revolution to fight anything. Did you see how they treated even the peaceful protesters in TO? :roflblack:
and it's not like we can vote them out. A new party just brings new taxes. It is unfortunate that even the Government is cashing in on the green realization and taking peoples genuine concerns and using it against them :D

Over the past 40 years we let the politicians and bureaucrats do it to us. They spoon fed us the bull and we lapped it up until we went blind.
Truth is, and I'm ashamed of it, I wrote some of the election speech crap that you were fed.

The other less excusable reason. Politicians get away with so much because the average citizen can't even bother to vote, let alone get involved in the process.

Apparently this is an illegal tax . It was snuck in July 1st with the gst . They had 9 materials that were eco taxed in 2008 & now it's 22 materials . Can you believe potting soil is one of them ....and vitamins ?? We will hear a lot more about this tax , people are just becoming aware that we are being gouged again by McGuinty who is letting the companies charge this tax . Here is the first thing that came up when I googled up this eco fee .......

Well , a little good news today . Can.Tire will no longer charge eco fees starting tomorrow , Tues. July 18 . I believe this applies to all the new stuff but not tires etc. that was taxed previously . I hope others follow suit but I think they might try to get the manufacturers to incorporate the eco tax in their prices and simply pass the extra costs on to the store shelves so we will not see it . And the beat goes on ......... ;)

Read that as well Bill. Been on TV and in the papers where canadian tire admitted to over charging this tax.
The tax will be hidden one way or the other down the road.
