These guys are brutal this year. Just when I thought only Ridgeway had the infestation that basswood tree I planted this year is almost gone. Today in Crystal Beach I looked up and most of the trees looked like a target at the shotgun range. Geez even if we all put beatle traps in our yards which work well, these things have also infested all the wild areas. I wonder how much they will effect the heath of our forest both ground cover and trees.
If you say shut up and fish then shut the hell up when they tell you that you can't fish anymore!

I read your post a little to quickly, and thought you meant these guys.

We tamper with nature all too often without thinking about the long term repercussions.

I remember when I was really young and living in the Dunn st area my backyard's fence was covered in these things (and raspberries....mmmm) I used to scoop them up and keep them in a jar then I never saw them again until this year in my pool....something else I haven't seen in probably 15 years is those yellow beetles with black stripes.

I believe when infestations like this occur, each person should be given a couple free traps each season, or per household. Alot more people will jump aboard if they don't have to pay 10 bucks per trap.

I agree with that Bruce . Many would like to see black flies & mosquitos eradicated but we would also lose a lot of animal species as well . We were talking about bats lately & it was mentioned that they eat tons of skitters . Well , it seems their diet may be as small as 2% mosquitos . I found this site accidently .....looks like a good info site with comments from viewers . The bat info is about half way down the page........
