My daughter and I hit our new fun spot and the perch were more than happy to bite. I lost track of how many little perch we landed. I started to experiment with fishing depths and got into a nice crappie ( my first ever). I didn't have a bucket with me, so back it went. Landed a few sliver bass (calico ?), once the sizes increased, I went looking for a bag. Best I could find was an old bread bag, man did the geese recognize that. We ended up keeping 3 fish. Now that I have a system figured out (I'm sure the fish will change that) we will be going back in the morning.

Good going Dr.
In the future you may want to bleed out white bass right when caught. It may sound dumb but I know someone gave me a good reason for it I just forgot. I think it had something to do with the oil in their bodies. They do taste better believe it or not when they are bled right after catching.
Good size perch too.
Congrats

That fish in the middle is a White Perch (similar to a silver bass)....White perch have the purple tinge on their lower jaw and dull grey finish. Silver bass have horizontal black stripes and a bright white belly.

Good to see you got out with you're little girl again, and caught fish to.
I usually take my step daughter to the rec canal here in welland but lately we have caught
nothing. Hopefully her and I will get out and be able to post some pics to soon.
You should take her to the rec canal at townline rd in the summer and fish off the floating docks
it's a great place to take a kid.

Nice fishees Doc......It's good to see you and Angel are making me look like a dummy ! :worthy: .....Oh well , I AM the gobie king ....so far :) You have some tastey vittles there Doc.......The white perch ..(bass) are very tastey too but after you have skinned the fillet , take a very sharp small knife & take out the brownish coloured lateral line ....it's oily and fishy tasting . Use your fingers or tweezers to lift that yuk line out after you cut it with the knife ...then rinse off the fillet and let dry on a paper towel . They make a great fry when you get a bunch . The Bay of Quinty is full of them in the fall . Ok...where'd you get em? :D ...............(tell me at Timmies & I'll buy) :D

Unfortunately I'm working this weekend, but hope to get out with my son after school early next week. Was thinking of hitting Lake Gibson/Beaverdams since it is close to me, or maybe the Aquaduct in Welland, unless someone could PM me with a better option. I promise to post pics IF we get anything.

Old Skool, Baz ;)

Walleye : Pickerel
Pike : Jackfish
Lake Trout : Makinaw
Crappie : Calico Bass (Actually Calico sounds better, I'll start to revive that one)

Dr. Feelgood, if you want to improve your catch on Crappie's try setting your bait only inchs underneath the surface, 2-6 below your float.
I thought this seemed odd when I was told it but Crappie's have a tendency to suspend and they come up for food. I went from cathing the odd small one to catching multiple slabs, on the holland river in Bradford with this technique. Give it a try it may work.

So is that where Harry Neale gets his famous "Holy Makinaw" comment for the CBC leaf games?
