  1. Has anyone fished from a boat in the back of Jordan Harbour...used to be my go to spot almost every week by the trestle but seldom see any one out there any more...I am talking 15 to 20 years ago
  2. Thought pike season opened next week!!
  3. bullheads and Channels are great...I"ve also tried Drum...very sweet but make sure you remove the dark meat on the side of the filet...I usually bring home 1 or 2 when fishing is slow....check out the fish eating guide...not very many contaminates which is good to know ..also have been eating the occasional sucker for over 50 years and they fry up very welll..very sweet as well..always had problems with bones until I watched a few videos on Youtube ...Try them--You'll like them...tried a small carp (about 2lbs) once...tasted like no flavor at all... Just Food For Thought...check online for recipes
  4. forgot to mention that I'm using #7 and#8 weght lines..more into bass and pike using heavier flies so the line does go farther ...I use 6wt for small streamers and poppers for panfish...hot concerned about small streams since there isn't enough room to push past 20'...the streams are svery small

    Distance

what distance does the actual fly fisher cast??? Watching fly fishing in videos and on tv is quite deceiving given the angles that cameraman use....I seem to get 20 to 40 feet (closer to 20 or 30' or so) at best when there is nothing behind me...although even that can be deceiving when not using poppers or other top water flies... thanx for any help given...btw...i'm talking on a relatively calm day...I know that there ar many variables
  6. Ever thought that those that leave by 4:00 are trying to make it home before their wives get home, as if they worked at a job all day instead of playing hookey...(or playing hooking) ...Just sayin" Ever thought that those that leave by 4:00 are trying to make it home before their wives get home, as if they worked at a job all day instead of playing hookey...(or playing hooking)
  7. have tried all local species...carp had no flavor...sheephead great...sweet...all panfish are the best, though...never be afraid to try something even if others say differently...go online and you'll find a recipe for all species(X100)...that's my pick anyways forgot...my favourite is anything with scales and fins....catfish included (though the don't have scales)
  8. To make things easier, you can buy a plastic bottle with markings on it which shows the proper amount of oil to mix with the gas...the marks show the litres of gas and the ml of oil...it also shows in gallons...just fill the oil to the required amount and pour int the gas tank...they are especially handy if you buy oil by the gallon jugs..I've been using theses for over 20yrs and wouldn't be without one....you can get the additive, which is a fuel stabilizer such as Sta-bil, at any marine supplier such as marlon marine ...Canadian Tire also sells it...just make sure you get one marked for Marine use

  10. This week I had to do the same thing...but mine isn't a Ranger....I got a replacement at Marlon Marine in Port Dahousie on Lighthouse Road...also you could try Nichol's Marine in Fort Erie....any place that sells boats should be able to stock them or get them...just remember to get submersiblelights
  11. After the battle regarding canoeing on Martindale, I understand that a boat ramp was going to be built on Henley Island....when is that supposed to happen...looking forward to fishing the pond for panfish soon as the ice is almost gone...will it be only for canoes and kayaks or will tin boats be allowed....the way I read the NFN site the announcement said BOAT RAMP...here's hoping
  12. Here is a Spirited Christmas Wish for all who are members and friends of the NFN to all a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR be safe on the water both hard and soft be respnsible when toasting with Brown Pops and other related liquid refreshments remember your families and children and most important....REMEMBER WHY WE HAVE CHRISTMAS IN THE FIRST PLACE... 13. Always thought if you retreive a snagged lure while fishing it was yours...that's the way we've played the game...at least if you retreived the lure you should at least thank the loser especially if you KNOW it was your buddy's...I'm sure if you lose the lure when you're alone or, better yet, find one your not going to be upset...just thoughts
