Based on the image from Kuwait,  Just like our Nafta deal, if the small percentage of body parts were just made elsewhere, it is still considered from local source,
I never touch our olive oil either, Been mislabeled in years Hard to find pure Olive oil anymore these days.

I might have posted this before,  But old funny fishing stories never dies.
    Dumb and Dumber!
I have never bothered seeing the great Niagara Water falls during the first 8 years I became a landed immigrant. I just focused on establishing my life and career in Toronto area.(the city was not yet called Greater Toronto Area), Until I heard of whirlpool fishing, where someone could catch a big trout called steelhead. My first naive impression of trout was the fish was just a small one lber that people caught while fly fishing. Internet was very primitive back in the early 90's, still no GPS technology available. I only read from the first Original fishing forum founded by UofT Zoology student, about fishing Niagara region. the forum was just a one liner chat primitive fishing board that works on AOL, it is a privilege to those who have a dial up account, they could access the fishing forum. Some anglers tip/mentioned about  big trout being caught at Niagara region, and warned that it was challenging area to get to. Kawarthas lake used to be flooded with fish, so I never bothered venturing out farther than an hour drive, still not much traffic back those days.  Getting to places was by Mapping. Mapping was using a magnifying glass to read from a paper map, then we need to jot down all the street to know when and where to turn.
So I told one of my friend that we should stay overnight at the Brand new Redroof Inn (it cost $35/night back then and was promoted at Toronto Star paper) to visit Niagara falls with our family on Victoria Day, then fish whirlpool when our family was still asleep early next morning. Then, after we had fished, we can take them  to the famous Flying Saucer restaurant and have our cheap 99 cents breakfast meal (also advertised from Toronto Star) What could you get for 99 cents back then? Two toasted bread and two eggs cooked at our preference, and decent amount of home fries. unlimited Coffee refill was $1 extra. Who said only cheap people go there.,we always give a 50% tip!
My friend and I woke up by 7am, then drove to the whirlpool parking lot. As the leader, I excitedly head straight across the parking lot, with my friend cautiously tagged along not too far behind. After standing at the edge and speculated the hill's steepness . I told my friend "This is doable,  we just have to slide down with our butt when it gets really steep." He replied, "Are you sure?" I then insistently replied "How else could anyone get down there?". So with one hand holding our small tackle box and our 6'rod, while another hand , we tried to grab whatever small tree or branches we can get a hold of,  we nervously went down, mostly slid down with our butt off the dried leaves.  After 15 minutes, we finally got to the helicopter platform.  I told my friend that  we got lucky that day , since it was not a rainy day , where the leaves were dry and were there to cushion our butt. My  butt was somewhat sore, but our pants were not dirty and we got there safely, was my big sigh of relief!
We only saw 3 other guys and one kid  fishing that morning by 8am , i asumed the limited amount of people was all due to the steep hill to get down, and Kids were natural in sliding down on anything  Everyone was catching fish, including the kid, who had used a worm as bait on white cheap/red round bobber float. I never forgotten many big fish swam just beside the clear water shoreline in front of us.  I cast with a mini size one spinner,  after few cast, ....Fish ON! I landed the steelhead very fast since I was using a mitchel combo graphite rod and reel combo bought from CA tire, it was made in USA, with original 15lb mono line,(no braided line then) and zero drag, the line I never bothered to replaced in years, the line seemed strong, could  last forever and had landed lots of fish. I did not even know the importance of the reel drag system. Tight drag for me meant the line would be strong to ensure fish could not go too far from where I caught it. After I landed the fish, and took some pictures before I released it. I told myself  this Niagara place is a gem. Then I told my friend that his lure was not effective so I  gave him another mini spinner. After few cast, he also landed as well, with his 20lb mono, and no drag fishing equipment. With contented feeling, we were forced to quit by 9am, we never seriously imagined we would actually caught a fish that morning, especially, we promised our wives  to be back at the motel by 9am.   When I was about to finished packing up , I noticed my pliers went missing, so I confronted the guy if he had seen it,  and just felt someone had stole it.  I did not know that time, the water rises due to city released more water during daytime. So my pliers got buried from the rising water after all .
I then asked one of the angler if there were other faster trail for us to get back up..........He replied, "There is only one trail , and the stairway is also there."  I felt so stupid grinning at my friend, and said .........." At least we both caught fish!"
We went back to our family and took them to the Flying saucer restaurant. They originally did not believe we had caught fish , then I told them, we will have proof after the film (non digital camera) gets developed. I then told my friend that we should do this more often. He did not respond that moment, .............All I remembered   that was the first and the last time we fished together!
Since that first great adventurous experience fishing Niagara , I never stopped going to Niagara  often, even if it felt a tedious chores  having to face traffic congestion coming from Toronto area. When someone or a foreign guest asked me what else to do at Niagara Falls, I always insisted of Fishing and Hiking! ................but I ensure i excluded  Butt sliding activity!

I delete my tweaked lure post out of my own decision. since I realized it would be hard to change people's habit anyway, and many just threw away useless lures aside with today's disposable minded consumerist society. I have been tweaking many thing for years, to not waste any salvageable goods around us. I also almost forgotten that  we have sponsor to support, so better just buy new updated technology .
Based on years of experience, I landed many more female with artificial lures that I used as stocked or tweaked................or due to Karma...fish just like to get caught by me knowing I will  release them!
The Confidence and satisfaction it can provide us when we outsmart the fish with our improvised lures, rather then just following others where we were being told that there are only limited specific ways in catching fish.

I am trying to create enough ideas to pitch them to Shark Tank TV show, hoping some of them will invest on this multi-million dollar business venture. Anyone have any idea how to convince Kevin O'leary to invest, feel free to pitch in. I heard he was the only person that does not fish, I heard he has a huge yacht, and has professional fishing guide to catch fish for him to eat freshly caught fish.
I also need a Swimsuit model to be our spoke person, no need English spoken language. Just sent pictures here for everyone's approval. Most of the investors  have Iphone translator anyway. I was told sex sells products, so the focus will be on the model ! Since Miss Columbia, the finalist, just miss out on Miss Universe pageant. i will also contact her this week ,to potentially bring her to our team, so she could have more meaning to her life, rather then just flaunt her beauty! This will prove to the world she was not just born beautiful for nothing, .....but she could also Fish! She does not speak English and yet made it to the finals, so we should just be more considerate and not discriminate her as well.

Some of my improvised/Tweaked lures. I am willing to share these small secret improvised lures, not just to salvage some of our unused  lures, but to also minimize on the usage of natural roe. THESE DESIGN ARE UNDER PATENT PENDING, BUT BEFORE THEY GET APPROVED , AND FOR LIMITED TIME ONLY, GO AHEAD AND COPY THEM. THEY ARE CALLED ....THE UGLY LURES1  The slogan on any future ad will be..............THEY ARE NOT JUST UGLY...........BUT THEY WORK!

I caught fish with bright fluorescent red colored grubs(similar to the bright red color on the video) under heavy stained water at Niagara. Now I know the reason. the red color turns into almost black color. black seems to be the most visible color under least possible lights.

Some positive story of meeting and fishing with charlieD years ago. We were fishing on the US side of Niagara river in the afternoon on my boat. Charlie gave us some pointers on how to drop shot for smallies, where to start the boat to drift towards an island, how deep to start casting our presentation,  and how to properly drop and lift the rod tip to ensure our line were as straight down as possible to adapt to the current that moved our boat. Some of us were casting and retrieving with lures, while Charlie uses drop shot technique. We all landed more than our limits that day. It was the first time I had witness drop shoting technique and how it could out fish cast and retrieve technique at times. Still being a new angler at Niagara river,  I remembered cleary the question I asked Charlie was " What technique tournament anglers predominantly  uses at Niagara river?", He responded . "Many drop shot the whole day, doing the same thing and allowing the boat to drift these productive areas, over and over again."
This news of CharlieD passing away was a surprise for me as for everyone, How time flies and life is shorter then we all could imagine!

I saved three people's rod and reel  in my life, twice during salmon fishing frenzy at port hope pier fishing, and once at a carp fishing day in Hamilton. All three were of similar pattern, I was standing at least 10 feet away from their set up, minding my own business, since there were no fish to be caught, these guys just went away for few seconds to do something else, then I witness their rod tip first curved down, then the rod handle went up and forward, being pulled towards the rail, but the bulky part on the reel cause a slight obstruction for extra 1-2 second, all this split second moment gave me enough time to ran and grab the rod handle that was barely on the ledge, then I was forced to fight with the fish for few seconds as I yelled fish on, they had a big sigh of relief as I hand over their rod back to them for them to continue fighting their fish. They thank me for my fast reaction and the fish they had landed .

Because of my experience while coarse fishing, if I have to do something else and plan to be 10 feet away from my rod setup, I  would never even dare to gamble and leave my bait on the water, I would always pull my set up out of the water, even tough knowing it was another chore to recast. Especially during Salmon fishing on pier during the fall, whenever I am not paying attention to try to attempt to leave my rod, that was when my rod tip goes down, but with some kind of sound and light indicator attached to my rod, it was a major help for me to run and grab my rod. i told others around me to not focus too much on their set up, but never be too far away from it either, It seemed the more we are not anticipating a fish, that was when our rod tip goes down, otherwise, on contrary, we could be anticipating a fish to strike, but eventually get board from waiting for nothing.

I tried to fish at Port D for an hour yesterday, after I came back from the US border for the day to pick up some stuff I bought on line. I also went to Buffalo Zoo during the time I was there, since I had groupon coupon costing $13 for two people. The zoo was disappointing, 1/3 of the animals were kept inside cages due to some renovation going on. While those animals that were out, just look overweight lazy and board to death.
I Fish from 7-8pm time slot. It was a calm 10km wind day. But weather started to change, I could hear thunder, dark clouds and rain coming towards Port D. So I cut my fishing time, to go pick up my wife, waiting at the local starbucks.
Water level close to the boat launch area were almost parallel to the shoreline. While the legion area that used to be fishable  were  fenced up.
I saw three anglers caught their share of rock bass using shrimp as bait, letting their bait sit at the bottom. The  Fish looks pale initially after being caught, then the rock bass body change to the regular normal darker black color as soon at it reached the atmospheric temp.
I also witness brown trout and other fish surfacing prob once every 10 minutes, even close to shore at times. It is actually harder to control lure action for my lure to reach the bottom, but not impossible, after catching few zebra muzzle . I tried heavy spoon, and 3/8 oz jig on swimbait.
I saw and spoke to Ben, the vietnamese angler who normally fished there all the time, He said fishing was tough this year. Being there for 28 years, he has not seen the water level came up ever that high.

You guys mention about garlic, do we eat them, few days before we head outdoor? Or do we brush them all over our legs or shirt.
I heard garlic also ward of vampires, but with so many beautiful female vampires I saw on TV, getting bitten might not be too bad.

Those drivers came from Toronto area. I have driven in US states a lot, and they do not do such a thing.
Only in Toronto do I witness 3-4 cars turning left after the red light, .................then the next group of drivers doing the same ,since their time to turn left was cut short .
Then the car behind honks at you if you do not turn left after two cars in front of you had turned left after the red light, since you chose to obey the law to stop.
I ride my bike at the sidewalk, or risk of getting killed.

    Another Positive thing Kenny did:
EIther Kenny had helped release 75,000 brown trout fingerlings at Port D last fall, or monitor the survival of the fingerlings prior to their release. He mentioned the small fish were in a cage submerge under water for two weeks to get used to the water temp of Port D, they were well feed on daily basis, this process ensure the survival of the small fish, compared to just releasing them on streams or river system.
I kind of regretted not taking him to the Whirlpool or the Glen with me on one of my fishing trip. He wanted to tag along, and stated he was fit enough to hike, due to his daily biking exercise. SInce I have not done well on quite of few my outing during 2015 winter months at niagara falls, I was kind of embarrassed to bring him along, knowing he might not do any better then his fishing experience at Port D. Compared to him being a pro at Port D.........I am just an amateaur angler!
Another good traits about Kenny, He never came across to me as someone cocky or bragged about his fishing success. He would mention his skunk days as much as his successful fishing days, always ready to pull out his mini notepad on previous days info that he had diligently log down.
On one occasion and pointer Kenny gave me, he showed me a mini circle hook, the size of 1/4", he said they were not readily sold at local tackle shop, he had to order them from UK. He asked me if I could find them off ebay and let him know, I was surprise how small a hook could even land a big trout, They were so small that others would assume a kid would used these hooks to catch gobies. He said that specific size hook with 4lb line was one secret of success by UK anglers during tough fishing condition when water gets really clear at a river. He had to use that combo as a last resort when no bite after regular set up used.
He was always so enthusiastic and passionate in his fishing conversation, it never occurred to me that he acted like a retired senior or someone slow. The first (10 years ago) and the last time( March 2015) how I remembered meeting him , aside from his Irish accent, he always held out his mini notepad. I am still baffled by what could have happened to him!
There is another regular Vietnamese/canadian FIshing guy who drives a white BMW 4x4, whose name is Ben, he might know more about what has happened to Kenny, since Ben lives at a condo not too far from the Port. They called each other on regular basis to fish together. Ben is another accommodating helpful regular angler over there.

I will miss him as well! Not everyone knew of his passing away, As time goes on, especially during up coming trout season, others will eventually come to realized our losses.
He was always very helpful in giving me pointers on port D fishing . He had a log book and jot down weather pattern, water clarity and fishing results for the day. I called him occasionally to chit chat, and it would take us 1-2 hours of conversation just about fishing.
I will miss him every time I go to Port D, he was the one person I always look forward to chatting when I go there. He would enthusiasticly tell me the good and the bad fishing report from previous days or weeks. I could still hear his Irish voice while typing my comments here.
At one time, my friend and I asked him about the best place to cast spoon, Kenny pointed me to go to the legion area. We went there after not doing well where we were fishing. After half an hour of fishing in front of the legion house, My friend and I both landed a Brown Trout, mine was my Personal best 7-10 lb football size female trout, it fought and resembled a fat carp, the fish refuse to surface at first. After I landed the fish, I screamed at the top of my lungs at Kenny, who was fishing at the opposite side of us, I showed him the fish I was holding then, both our fish were release of course. It was also my friend first landed Brown trout. What a memory!
Many knew him for biking even during snowy days.
How time flies, and now another friend is gone. Sometimes, I wish there will be fishing in heaven, to get to see and chat with friends, to talk about the good old fishing days all over again.

Sheepheads, silver bass, perch, carp were there, but not easy to catch them, I got skunk more than was successful. Just check weather conditions there for the same day, it could be fine, and not choppy at the right wind condition. I fished it on shore few times.

Best toy we can give to our children.....................US and our quality time together!
I was never raised with toys 50+ years ago in asia, Parents were hard working frugal people, and not a lot of selection of toys then, but I grew up with the freedom of the outdoor to explore. No potential kidnapping then, so i do not come home until supper time.
I raised my children the same way, hardly gave them any toys when they were growing up, not on Christmas nor on Birthdays, few cash here and there that always goes to their savings account, we went to Disneyland once, and canada's wonderland twice, but we do consistent outdoor activities, mostly weekends, and out of town water sport activities few times a year. Our whole family all look forward to doing something simple outdoor stuff, I ensured I gave them my time.
My children during teens, acquired serious hobbies and spent time on them to keep them preoccupied, only get to them after they finished their school home works, so they are not too keen on TV, nor interest in Video games. Now that they are in their early 20's, they do not get involved in face book either, not much TV/movie viewing, far from drugs or party life, they just focus on their university studies and took a part time job that they used to pay their own schooling. Just self sufficient disciplined adults from being raised early on with disciplined life. They do understand that life is not just having fun all the time, one needs to work to earn their rights for leisure activities.
Keep up the good work for being the right Dad. Wait till they start tying their own flies!

I just saw this cool video on unsnaging lures while river fishing .and can't wait to try it. I know some of you might say, potentially losing the plastic bottle and polluting our waters, By tying another thicker line to the bottle , then the bottle can be retrieved even if the original main line breaks.
I am confuse after watching the video is when the bottle floats above pass the snagged lure,............ how can we let it sink?

My first boating day at Lake Ontario.
This actually happen 17 years ago.
I was very excited after I bought a used 16ft 85HP fibreglass boat deal package for $1500, and have decided to invite my family of 3 and another family of 4, a total of seven passengers were for my boat initiation that afternoon, a boat cruise to see Toronto harbour. We all had a nice exciting time witnessing CN tower and Toronto harbour front from a different perspective. Then before we head back to our boat launch before it got completely dark, I told my friend to drive the boat at full speed back to the launch, while I sat back, relax and enjoyed the breeze. Time flies and without a compass or GPS, our first time boating on lake Ontario was sure very memorable, unsuspecting things sure could go wrong when we least expect it, especially not familiar with the gas consumption on the boat that I just bought. We tried to find the boat launch at Ashbridges Bay GTA to no success, and it was dark. Then the boat ran out of gas, “Luckily we were never too far off shore!” was my humorous comment! No luck using cell phone, more than decades ago, cellular phone technology was still quite primitive, so there was no signal even if we were less than few hundred feet from the shore line, that was when the boat engine conked out due to gas ran out. It was nice calm full moon evening to be at Lake Ontario. I tried blowing my horn few times, but no one was on site and not sure where we were as well. So I told my guest that we should just try to enjoy the evening and fish , which my 5 year old son and I started casting with our rods. I was calm and did not know what to do, boat was anchored down, especially I only had one paddle that came with the boat.
My wife's girlfriend , who was so scared since their entire family of 4 could not swim at all, started to semi hyper-ventilate. Then I jokingly said " this cannot be worse than Titanic?". My wife friend immediately requested for a bucket and peed in it. It was the first time I understood when a person got really scared to death, and possibly could pee on their pants.
By 10pm, I tried to shine my flashlights up the hill , and witness another person way above the top of the hill flickered and shined his lights in response to mine. Half an hour later, The Toronto Harbour Police came to our rescue and towed my boat, they were so accommodating, loaned us their infrared binoculars, and said with their electronic gadget, we could spot boats from miles away even on foggy condition . They also said we were very lucky to be out on a calm night, where waives of Lake Ontario could be up to two stories high at times. After we were towed back on shore, the police said we were found outside Pickering area, which was 15 minutes out fo the way from where we had originally launch our boats. They checked my boat safety equipment, was nice enough to just fine me $40 for missing one extra paddle, even if I had only two life jacket that time. They did not charge me for towing fee, nor the missing Toronto harbour front license that I needed.
I went to court to fight for that ticket weeks later, when the mediator asked me what was this ticket all about, I told him the story. He then asked my how much was I willing to pay? I said $25, and that was what I paid .
Till this day, I tease my wife’s friend that if they ever wanted another cruise to just let me know, and I assured her that I always carried a bucket inside the boat.
