I always bring my carp bait in grocery bags, usually empty them chumming and clean up my site I’m setup at. Sometimes its really frustrating to see that if I fish the same spots few nights apart the garbage appears in abundance that I just can’t seem to keep up.

When I hit 70 ish  the heat bothered me much more than the younger years ..... I need to be careful now as I had a spot of skin cancer removed from my beak and plugged with a piece of my ear ....
Most of us have a.c. at home ....the stores have it , cars have it , and we lose some of our tolerance to the heat ....going from 70F inside to 90F outside !   I have many carp spots to pick from but very few have a shade area to fish . I just mentioned to Tyler today that I haven't done an evening fish for a long time ....will have to try that soon !

I have had some good days at the 12 , better days when the water level was down  . I would pack up my mountain bike , park at the Glendale parking lot and bike over the walk bridge and ride downstream just passed the hydro lines  that cross the creek , about 50 meters,  which run  between McKay & Galbraith St off Pelham Rd.. There's a wide bend there and an open grassy spot to fish . I keep close the the bushes on the right side .....huge rock there where they hang about (may be under the water)  Some current there , I use a 1.5 oz. egg sinker there , did well with maize on the hair & also used oat/cream corn pack bait with puffed corn . They really put out a good brawl in the current !
It would be a 10 minute walk from the bridge .... watch for ticks , hopefully the heat cooked them !
Also carp spots below the rapids at Welland Vale , some big cats as well ...
Think I'll be doing a few hrs at Rennie tomorrow before it gets too hot ....

I haven’t had too many carp days lately. I fished the harbor for 3 hours the other day and got skunked. After Saturday I’ll be back to carping

Yepper ...got 3 today , largest one was 13.5 lbs .....(if my scale is on )  ...seemed to be near 30 lbs to me .....
Fished at "Nort's" spot & noticed this long "rope - reed" near the surface running parallel to the shore about 20' out .
It seemed to be floating & the wind was moving it towards me . ...then I hooked a nice carp !  It ran toward the "rope" & hooked me up
on the bottom & into some heavy weeds to my right . I opened the bail to see if it would turn around & it did ! I landed it & checked my line for frays ...good to go !
Then I decided to pull this "rope thing " in with my 30# braid ....It came in a foot or two & I saw it was a cable , about 1/2 " thick & I couldn't move it & I got my line off
by dropping & lifting until the hook skipped over it . I packed up and moved .....will not fish there again . I believe it's an old cable they used to mark lanes for rowers & somehow
ended up there . An outboard motor could easily hit the cable & flip a boat . ....the police came in with a black raft boat & I saw a firetruck pass by on the road with a yellow raft boat on the back ?
I had many "bumps" today , taking a few inches of line , setting off the alarm for a couple of "beeps"  , can't seem to hook one & they didn't take any maize from the hair rig. !  I did see a school of about 8 sunfish cruise by ......  So I caught 2 more carp at my old spot , one close to 10 lbs & one about 6 lbs . NICE day to be there !!
My first one was a steamboat , lucky to have landed it with 5 lbs.of weeds wrapped around it !
      I vill be back !!

Guess I missed you smerch! I went out tonight after dinner for a few hours with my oldest boy, we checked gibby and marlatts all of our regular spots were packed, so I took a page outta your book and hit rennie. First cast with a big ball of worms he gets a nice little cat, figured if that was the way the night was going to go it was going to be a good night. I setup my gear and waited, and waited, and waited. Finally! A nice long screamer! I couldn’t believe it! I was starting to second guess myself up until that point. Fought the fish for a good 10 minutes just peeling line off kept trying to make a run for the downed log to my left. Finally got it under control and my boy with the net in hand I get a little excited trying to tell him how to get the net on it and don’t I pull the hook! Son of a gun! I was mad. My boy then apologizes for not getting the net on it. Then I felt terrible. Total
rookie move on my part getting to excited. We had a good laugh after the fact about it all but man oh man that would have been a personal best. Every bit of 20lbs or more. What a brute! From then on my eyes were peeled watching them crash the surface and bubbles around me but nothing else doing this night. We decided to pack it in about 945. As much as I would have loved that fish the laugh me and my boy had and the story we got outta it is probably better then the actual fish. Anyways long story short we went 1 for 2 using pack bait and corn. He was using worms. Great night out and thanks for the tip on rennie

heres the little cat the boy got, first cast first fish kept the stripes away.

WTG  Drew !!   Most of those "juvenile" carp are very feisty !  Some have larger tail fins and seem to have more horse power !  I have had most luck there by tossing out just passed the weed beds at the bottom of the slope .
Nice to see you had some "little" company friends ......

Got out for 3 solid hours tonight only one little carp to show for the efforts. A mere 8lbs.. fought pretty good but was no match for the steam side carp rod. Made some friends tonight though. 4 mice, and a bunch of little baby ducks kept me company with the odd person walking by to stop and chat for a minute. Successful night out I guess

I always soak my maize before boiling it but it’s doesn’t really seem to get any softer. I’ll have to experiment and see what the difference in boil time would be.
Tomorrow looks like a Detroit river mission.  Might not get around to carping this weekend. Next week is looking nice....

Yummy looking corn there smercho  !
Well , I gave it a test run today ......lost my first one in 3 seconds ....gone !   Wind was fierce , blew my Tilly off , so decided to reel in and try a spot with "some" protection from the wind ...and old spot where I had some luck before . As I pulled my line out I saw that I missed a bite .....  this huge fella speared itself while trying to rob my corn !! lol
After a few bumps I managed to entice 2 carp which gave their approval to my fresh pineapple maize (on the hair) ...one about 12 lbs and one 10 lbs . (which looked beat up a tad and didn't have no where near the zip of the larger one . ( corn-ovirus ) ?....spawned out hen ?
Good day on the water front again .

I'm so happy to see you and your boy had some ACTION !!  My largest carp was hooked by a thin piece of its lip , I was amazed I didn't lose it ...not easy landing it solo while  stepping on those rocks !  I'm hoping the bite will improve as the water clears up .
Need to get your son to battle one of those girls Norton !
I think those "bumps" I had were cats nibbling at my maize which I have soaking on my hot asphalt driveway .....have a can of crushed pineapple to add after I drain off most of the juice .

...here it is after 12 hrs.in my driveway  ...could fry an egg on it !!  ) By 7:30 ,after 18 hrs in the pot , I'll light up the Coleman heater , bring it to a boil ,stirring every 15 minutes , then let it cool off slowly for a few hrs.....drain most of the juice , add a can of crushed pineapple , bag & freeze in 2 lb lots .....
Got 21 lbs of maize  with 1 lb.of crushed pineapple added .  ...all in zip lock bags , 2 lbs each and double bagged . So , my 55 lb bag of corn gives me 110 lbs of maize ....not bad for 10 bucks !
How do you guys keep your maize for long term storage  ??
     ...couple more shots ....expanding maize....
      ....pineapple beer .....     Cheers

I gave  it a go for 3 hrs.+ ....water was  murky ,  yaks all over the place , some were fishing ...rowers out practicing , tons of people on the pathway , busy as a summer weekend !
Bite was slow , lost the first fish , had a few good "bumps" and managed to net 2 carp ....largest was 12 lbs 14 oz (below). ...a few good runs but it quickly ran out of steam .....fell for my deluxe bolt/hair rig .... The elderly gents were there again with their bivy umbrella and said several carp were breaking water , and said a guy down the bank a way got a mirror carp there .
All in all another great day on the water .

    Les carp du jour ......
33 POUNDS  !!!   Yep , caught 33 pounds of carp today ...15# ...10# ...8#  !!   Being Saturday I had a few spots in mind and the lake front was busy .  Coviditis phobia changed my plans so I ended up at plan R    ...Rennie Park (had a baby blanket to deliver there) .
So I wanted to try a new smercho rig that would ring their chimes ....a modified bolt rig .  ( 1.5 oz egg sinker ....and 4" above , 2 large split shots to allow a carp to pick up the maize on the hair , move 4" of line to the double split shot and set the hook ....which worked like a charm !!  All 3 carp hit hard and smoked my alarm !  Actually , no need for the alarm , the rod could be placed high in the air with a bolt rig as they hook themselves !   All three gave out a good run and hard head shakes .
As a bonus .....while sitting in my chair about 6 birds flew close by chasing  a small hawk or falcon which had a mouse in it's claws .....Then a snake appeared beside my rod , in the water and stayed for 5 minutes ...always something to see when fishing !
As I headed out after 2 hours  ( not 12 hours Fish Farmer !! ) , I met 2 elderly gents fishing the bay with all the carp gear ....had a nice chat and lots of laughs . One fellow said , "when you hear that alarm go off for the first time , YOU ARE HOOKED FOR LIFE"   LOL !
Checked out CDP ....lots of water going over the berm ......  not good !
Just took one shot of the first carp ...10 lbs .....tough scrapper !   Not sure what the snake is .... but friendly ....

I’m not sure how I would rate myself ? I’ve done the lake o charters and hauling in salmon. I’ve kayaked the big lakes and pulled in some nice size trout. I mainly fish from shore but I also fly fish. I tend to think my grasp on fishing is quite good yet I’m on the bank or talking to others and realize there is still so much I don’t know ! It’s probably what I love most about the sport. There is no black and white to it. It’s all grey area and thinking outside the box goes along way.
