  1. Son and I were down in port last night, got a couple of nice hits thinking they were browns. Could not set the hook quick enough, shredded my roe bags. While fishing heard a huge splash and looked down towards the bridge and a young guy had fallen into the water. Although at the time I laughed, then thinking about it later realized how quick something like that can happen. Lucky he was not on the other side where the current is much stronger, be careful down there!
  2. Nice work Cliff, but redwing colors would be nicer
  3. The chain in my toilet tank broke late last night, had to figure out a quick fix. Ended up getting two leaders and 20 pound braided line, working perfectly Les Stroud move over Dadandson is taking over
  4. Took a walk through Port tonight, went down behind the Legion and saw a nice sized Salmon make the splash. Getting the fever!!!
  5. Another sad news story in the Standard, about 2 oclock a rower spotted a body floating in the pond. Not much more info at this time.
  6. Sorry to hear that Bill, that chit seems to be more common all the time!
  7. Not much details anyone down in Port last night? They say the man is in his 60's just wondering if it was a fishing accident.
  8. cdnfishinguy what the rowing club did was sneaky and underhanded in my opinion, instead of approaching various groups to try and work out a solution. And exactly who but a bunch of fishermen and kayakers would post their opinion on this subject, as they are the ones most affected!
  9. The float in was an idea to heighten the publics awareness about our rights being stomped on. Was not talking blockades or rowing club interference, I don't understand why we have to tip toe around this issue as we have a right to be vocal. I understand nightfisher is working very hard on our behalf, and I appreciate that very much. That being said I think we should be able to post our opinions !
  10. maybe we should organize a Canoe / Kayak float in, on a Sat. or Sun. morning, draw some attention to our plight! I am sure we could fill up the pond with no problem, just a thought!
  11. Going camping tomorrow in Huntsville at arrow head provincial park, just wondering if anyone has fished this lake and what kind of luck they had?
  12. Just to clarify my post last night it was my attempt at humor to lighten up a very touchy subject. There was absolutely nothing behind the post other than levity. That being said I do hope things get resolved soon, in our favor of course
  13. Think it would be funny if some of those large boulders ended up under the bridge, not a lot of room to go around them! The rowers would have to get out and lift their boats over them
  14. Hey guys how is it going? Have not posted in ages because of work and other reasons have not been doing a lot of fishing. That being said I do stop in daily to live the dream through your posts I have been following the Henley posts as we fish there quite a bit when we can, is there no updates as to a solution of the rock piles dumped to prevent access to the water?
  15. Happy New Year everyone, and don't forget to renew that fishing license
  16. Welcome this is a great board, lots of helpful guys on here. Caught a real nice Pike in the Welland last summer, I know they are in there!
  17. Not on the end of my line Saw a few landed today on the East side. We were on the West side behind the Legion never saw any landed there.
  18. Had the day off so son and I headed down to Port to try our luck, very busy down there but no major snags I had two breakoffs could not land one But no porblem a bad day of fishing is better then a good day at work. Learnt a lesson though is to check you floural carbon (sp) leader often as the Zebra Mussels takes its toll on it, convinced that is why the breakoffs. P.S. Smerch saw your chum down there cruising around on his scooter, nice to see him out and about!
  19. I was not conrontational at all, he just seemed pissed that I questioned him. The reason I asked was the other night I saw some people fishing in that area, and like I stated it is not fenced. It was just curiousity more then anything. Like I stated I have never fished anywhere beyond the bridge, always fish behind the legion. P.S. was wondering who would I contact regarding garbage bins behind the legion, was one there last year which I used often to clean up after the slobs that were too lazy to walk the ten yards to dispose of their garbage. It is gone and the nearest one is down a ways past the parking lot.
  20. Not really sure he said you cannot fish on or from the start of the bridge, upto the road at the other end so assuming that means anywhere even under. I believe the two guys that were fined while I was there were under the bridge.
  21. The MNR and the regional police were down in Port blitzing the area, handed out a couple of fines for fishing past the pedestrian bridge. He and a regional cop then proceeded to check all of our licences, which I had no problem with. I then said to him it would be nice to get some clarification as to the areas we can and cannot fish, and his smart ass answer was don't you see fences. As I don't and never have fished under the bridge I said well the area between Tredwells and Lincoln Fabrics is not fenced so does that mean you can fish there, and he got snarky and replied that it is private property. I responded that it is a parking lot which has public access so if the buisnesses did not prohibit fishing, then it must be okay to fish there to which I never got a response. I am all for the MNR enforcing fishing rules and actually have wished that they made the precence more visable, but at the same time can't help but think there has got to be a better way to educate people about rules that are not in the regulations. Also a little politeness goes a long way when the MNR officer is shown politeness, as all the guys down there tonight were!
