    New to fly fishing ish...

Pick up a copy of "Fishing Ontario’s Grand River Country" https://www.amazon.ca/Fishing-Ontarios-Grand-River-Country/dp/1552774686 it's a great book with tons of information. I like the stretch between Paris and Brantford for Smallmouth, but they are prety much every where once you get below the brown trout section around Elora. https://www.grandriver.ca/en/outdoor-recreation/resources/Documents/FishingTheGrand-2015.pdf . Crayfish patterns and dark coloured wooly buggers work well, you can always add split shot 6-12" above your fly to help it get down in the deeper holes.

    Chasing Browns!

Tried my luck on Sunday, fished between the mouth of the Niagara and Welland Canal. No luck for me either, but it was a beautiful day.

    Lewiston bridge access help

There is a parking lot just above the ramp, you can (or at least you used to be able to) access a trail head on the south side of the parking lot; you can walk up to a gate just before the bridge, access above this point is restricted as this is the power generating station. The next access point up river from here, that I am aware of, is via the Niagara Glen park, there is a trail running along the river which you can take north towards the power station. I am uncertain as to how far north you can go now befor you reach the restricted power generating station area.

    Lewiston bridge access help

Hi Limey, This should give you what you need http://www.niagaragreenbelt.com/listings/125-fishing/743-fishing-at-queenston-docks.html . Look for the signs to the boat Queenston boat ramp. Stating the obvious here but regardless… be careful, it's icy, tricky terrain on the shore line this time of year. Cheers, John

Fishing on vacation in the Dominican

I'm usually flyfishing while i'm down south (i have never been to the DR, I usualy fish Florida, Cuba and Belize) but I always bring a travel spinning rod with me spooled up with 200 yards of 12# test. Bring some knotable 30-40# wire. Bring some 3/8-1/2oz white bucktail jigs; some 3/8-1/2oz jigs with some 4" twister tails (i like rootbeer, and chartuse; some 4/0 or 5/0 worm hooks and 3/8-1/2oz bullet sinkers and texas rig hot pink or chartuse worms (rip these as fast as you can for barracudas), or use these with white 5" plastic shad (bass assasin, etc.). You can jig deeper holes around mangroves for snappers and jacks, walk turle grass or sand flats for bone fiah and cuda. Send me a message if you'd like some additional info. Cheers, Jon

Boating bill set to become law

That's confusing about still needing to report in to Canada customs as the bill has received royal assent. http://www.parl.ca/LegisInfo/BillDetails.aspx?Bill=S233&Language=E&Mode=1&Parl=42&Ses=1 http://www.parl.ca/LegisInfo/BillDetails.aspx?Bill=S233&Language=E&Mode=1&Parl=42&Ses=1&billId=8686309&View=6 But, better safe than sorry...

How productive is your average outing for bass?

On Lake Erie or the Niagara River, fishing out of a boat, 20-30 fish is a good day; I’ve had lots of days with less and the odd one with more. But, it's always a good day when you are on the water! I say it, and I try to live it; when you finally break through that barrier it's almost like achieving angler enlightenment... I get called out on this point at fish camps all the time, but it’s true. Heck, it’s the only thing that keeps me sane when I’m fishing for permit.

    Fishing Boats For Erie

I run a shallow draft 18' flats skiff (Hell's Bay Maquesa) , but I primarily stay shallow or fish the river... if the lake is rough I'm fishing the river. I prefer to sight fish the shallows with a fly rod... I'm a bit of an odd duck up here.
