  1. Just a little story to share. Last night I was out in just a regular 16 foot aluminum boat with my twin daughters fishing when I just couldn't help but think of the history of this boat. So here it is in a nutshell from my grandfather. This particular boat was manufactured by Harbour Craft. My grandfather built a lot of tooling for these very boats at Trapps Manufacturing. This boat was purchased in 1967 by my grandfather and has since been used for fishing by my grandfather, his kids, his grandchildren, and now the forth generation, his great grand children. Although it is now powered by a newer 9.9 Jonson Motor I still have the 1977 brown 9.9 Jonson Motor that I remember as a kid. Determined to get it running again someday. This boat has seen a lot of water over the past 50 years and many strings of fish hanging from the sides. From the big waters of Niagara to the remote smaller lakes in Espenola. To me stories like this is what makes fishing just that more special. P.S. my 7 year old daughters were making dad look silly last night catching walleye in Haliburton last night in this very boat. The 4th generation did not disappoint......... Karl Jr.
  2. Good luck. Your odds of catching go up greatly when you take your brother in law. To bad I'm heading north in the morning.
  3. Ah yes the Food Terminal. I'm there twice a week also from March till Christmas. But this does leave afternoons for fishing when not feeling like a zoombi when you get back. :-)
  4. Anyone know of an access point on Lake Ontario in the Niagara area where I could gather some smooth skipping stones. Our family lost the regatta last year at the family cottage in Haliburton. We're on the hook for hosting it this year and need skipping stones for one of the games with all the children on the lake. Thanks in advance. If it's a spot you rather not post send me a message. Rods will stay at home. Promise........ Lake Erie is the standby but would rather not travel out that way if I don't have too. Karl Jr.
  5. Shhhhhh. But Ling beats drum in that catigory. Not by much though.
  6. I believe Hwy 20 and Haist in Fonthill. At the Target gas station/double drive through. Also the avondale stores in both Fenwick and North Pelham.
  7. Was a great opener in Haliburton. Always pick up the kids on the last day of school and head north. Erie will have to wait. Kids had a blast, lost count on how many fish we got. Dad still managed the biggest of the night.
  8. Throw a canoe on top of the camper and head to Silent Lake PP. Also a ton of lakes in the area if you would like to head off the camp ground for a day.
  9. That's the best thing I've heard all day!
  10. Up in Haliburton fishing in drizzle all day with 6 inches of slush. Last week end fished the exact same spot on the same lake in -25 temps. Haven't figured out yet weather I prefer being frozen or soaked yet. :-)
  11. I'd tell you but then would have to dig out the shot gun from under the bed and that would just involve work over the holidays. Lol. So my lips remained sealed. Got a give them trout a chance to be caught by my kids in 20 years.
  12. Well today's Christmas Present did not involve stuff but rather an experience. Was such a nice day out so I grabbed my 5 year old daughter and 7 year old son and said we're going for a walk out in the back of the farm. The walk with two giggling kids was great but nothing prepared me for what we would stumble upon in the bush down the ravine. The kids were just playing and goofing around the pond stocked with fish many moons ago and naturally I was walking quietly around the far edge to see if I could spot any Brook Trout swimming in the shallows. Let's just say I had to call my kids over for this treat. I had them follow me as quietly as they could to the special spot I had found. To all our amazement we got to witness about a dozen or so 12-14 inch Brook Trout swimming around an old sunken log and some brush. The water was crystal clear and we all just sat there and watched in awe. Then my daughter piped up..... "Dad.....are those clown fish?" Had a good chuckle and explained to her what they were and that they are special fish that are really hard to find around here where we live. Went on to explain why they are the colour they are right now. I got to admit I don't think I have ever seen Brook Trout as decorated as these ones sporting their true fall/winter colours. Is was almost mesmerizing watching them swim around. And then my son found a stick and threw it in the water and that was the end of that. Poof and the fish were gone. Lol By far the best gift I received today. Although if my wife could of snuck a frozen lake or two with ice under the tree today I would of had to reconsider. :-) Cheers Karl Jr.
  13. Told my wife that I'm going to put the kids aquarium in the freezer tonight so I can go ice fishing tomorrow from my lazy boy in the living room. My 2 boys aged 10 and 7 over heard me. "Dad!!!!! Can we really do that!!!!" I think there more bummed out than me.
  14. Lots of farmers looking for students this time of year. Go for a drive and start knocking on some doors. You never know. If I would of known sooner I would of told you guys to drop by. Just hired a 11 and 14 year old 3 weeks ago. If what you say work ethic wise is true you shouldn't have trouble finding a summer job on a farm. Just have to look. Best of luck.
