  4. Happy New Year everyone, unfortunately I don't have good news. Incredibly even though we have had extremely cold temperatures the lake ice is still unsafe. There is a layer of snow and water on top this is slowing down ice growth. I'm hoping that it will be safe by this weekend, stay tuned for updates. Paul Karbusicky Valens Lake CA Superintendent
  5. Well unfortunately due to the mild spell a few days ago we lost some ice, with the cold temperatures coming through this week we should hopefully have good ice by the end of the week. I will post once the ice is safe for fishing. Paul Karbusicky Valens Lake CA Superintendent 905-525-2183

  10. Hi everyone, due to the warmer weather and rain the ice conditions at Valens Lake Conservation Area have become unsafe, hopefully we don't loose all the ice over the next week. I'll keep you posted as to when the ice conditions improve. Don't forget ice conditions can change rapidly through the day when the temperatures are above freezing. Stay safe out there and stay on top. Paul Karbusicky Valens Lake CA Superintendent
  11. There is currently 10" of ice out there, solid shore to shore and smooth, no snow cover. These conditions may change this week as conditions warm up, I will post when anything changes. There were many fishermen out this weekend, some nice fish caught and released, saw some nice perch around 10" in size. Paul Karbusicky Valens Lake CA Superintendent
  12. The ice is holding, we still have 9" of ice, it is smooth as glass now so make sure to bring ice cleats so you don't have a bad fall out there. Also mark February 11 in your calendars for our annual ice fishing derby, details to be posted shortly on our web site www.conservationhamilton.ca Paul Karbusicky Valens Lake Superintendent
  13. Unfortunately due to the weather, this years ice fishing derby at Valens Lake Conservation Area is CANCELLED. I was hoping the ice would survive through this warm spell but it never got thick enough and with the milder temperatures through this week it won't have a chance to recover. The prizes which we have collected for this derby will go towards the summer fishing derby. Paul Karbusicky Valens Lake Superintendent
  14. Hi, sorry for the bad news but due to the warming temperatures and the rain forecast for Sunday ice fishing will be closed at Valens Lake Conservation Area until conditions improve, hopefully by next weekend. Paul Karbusicky Valens Lake Superintendent
