Burgoyning Woods Coyotes

Coyote watch is anti hunting and I don't care that they say otherwise. They discourage hunting at every opportunity and paint coyotes as helpless misunderstood angles. I couldn't believe it when they presented to Regional Council about the landfill hunt and tried to suggest that coyote numbers were way down because they couldn't hear them vocalizing. Geez one didn't need to walk very far to find all kinds of coyote scat or tracks so if they were specialists they would have known the numbers were wayyyy up. Mange this year for sure.

Careful with biologist too. We're all learning that scientist get paid by somebody who wants a particular outcome. I think allot of anti's are getting into the profession or at least into their heads. Not all bio's paint the same picture. The best education comes from first hand observation. It does help though if someone can tell you what to look for.

Derek I don't see the difference between that power point and the one on the coyote watch website. I inquired to the OFAH wildlife bio because professionals like OMNR don't generally write persuasive style papers but in that PP the pages in the upper 40's definitely argue that bounties are useless and a waste of funds. Not that I disagree but it seemed unusual for OMNR to use that form of writing and I did find it on an anti hunting website. You know the ones that called me a conservation minded moron :)

Derek I don't see the difference between that power point and the one on the coyote watch website.

What I was referring to was the difference between the MNR's slideshow versus Coyote Watch's own home-made slideshow that they put on in front of Councils, etc. It is very scewed.

Yes, you mean the innocent angels slide show :) . In Fort Erie they played the tape of the coyotes yowling and asked members of the audience to guess how many. They were hoping someone would guess a significant number but a young teenage girl hit it on the head with 4! I guessed the same so that means when I hear a dozen I'm probably pretty accurate :)

CW still haven't returned my email requesting info on their BOD or an answer to why they chose to defend coyotes by way of Firearms discharge bylaws thereby stopping all hunting in these areas. If you look at their links page it's pretty obvious which route they favour. They especially want to make hunting coyotes with hunting dogs illegal. I don't hunt coyotes yet. I heard they're not very good eating but if their pelts become profitable I may just take it up. I hear they reproduce more when hunted so it could turn into a viable business.

  • 2 months later...

A woman walking her 2 maltese dogs on a leash , had a coyote creep up behind her & grabbed the smallest dog & ran off with the dog , in Pickering yesterday .They seem to be getting braver as their natural food supply disappears , or the yotes look at the small dogs as an easy target .Some people say these yotes are coy dogs .......

not "coi -dogs" ......
