Chicken By The Tree

Recommended Posts

Many people eat these chicken mushrooms. I have not decided yet if I will take this one.

It measures 27 inches across and about 10 inches high.

Also the oak tree this mushroom is on is 17 feet in diameter. I believe it's

the second or third largest oak tree here in Niagara.

Wow Dan that's a huge tree (17'). I thought sulfer shelf mushrooms were yellow with an orange rim and also known as chicken of the woods. i would love to take a class on mushroom ID. No matter what kind that's a large pile of fungi :o

Do you mean 17' in circum. Dan ? That is a huge fungi ......If you paint it red it would look like a huge rose ! :) I saw a lot of weird looking fungi attached to trees when I walked for miles in the woods while moose hunting . At Arrow Lake there was plenty of pitcher plants which grew in wet mossy areas . They were a carnivorous plant which traps insects ....real cool to see the bugs inside these plants .
