Split-shot
I am personally challenging the owner and this sites admins and sponsers to put their money where their mouth is inregards to making this a true "family oriented site" by figuring out a way to get its members together for bi-weekly or monthly clean up the garbage days with specific areas targetted such as port d east and west side or green ribbon trail or anywhere there is heavy garbage to be cleaned with garbage bags rubber gloves and prizes for the most collected by individuals or teams...I know a lot of ppl will say oh I can't make it but I'd be willing to bet that some will come out for the prizes being awarded and to the sponsers of this site I personally know that all prizes are a write off on your expenses...so what do you say? Is this doable or what?...would be another great way to get members to do something good for everything we take for granted each and everytime with go and play in the great outdoors...something to think about, Cliff. seeing how you were the one who reminded me of how this was a family oriented site and a lot of families like the outdoors!!!!!....might even get your site some free advertising in local papers if you planned this properly..... Split-shot
This doesn't have to be complicated or extravgant or a lenghty time frame either, an hour or two at the most at specific areas Place and time Supply some gloves and bags Supply cold bottled water Supply a way to weigh the bags Award prizes to EVERYONE regardless of who has the most garbage but of course the most garbage wins the biggest prize!!! Hangout for a bit to get to know eachother if you choose Go home knowing you are doing your part for our enviroment Sponsors or admin can call the region or city to have a truck on hand to dispose of collected garbage which I am sure they will donate for free considering its their job we would be doing for them free of charge to them of course

Split-shot
I figured you'd find a cheap excuse to put this on the back burner that's why you wouldn't need to do anything other than give your admin and sponsers the go ahead to organize this..few phone calls here and there and sponsers can select some terminal tackle from their inventory as prizes or give aways to who ever shows up to help out...don't over think the logistics of this, Cliff because it doesn't have to be complicated and everyone wins..the enviroment gets cleaned and everyone gets a doggy bag of terminal tackle to use, god knows we all go through enough of that stuff...contact the local newspapers and get someone to write up a story to get the publics attention and your sponsors a few more customers..I'm almost certain you will have people coming out to help out without wanting something for free but it doesn't hurt to add an extra little incentive to get them there...if we work together and we all do a little part this could be a very good thing and heck your sponsors might even make some money with new customers that had no clue they were even around...so come on, Cliff. Givem the word and use your contacts to make this work...like I said you really don't have to do anything but ask them which I'm sure if they are family men they will find a little time to do this for their communities and kids future

Snags
It's a wasted effort. It has been tried many times over the years and there's a lot of GREAT IM THERE attitudes but when it comes time to show up and work ... A very few do both, some will show up and talk the talk. I'd be willing to help out but once I know I won't be one of three people there. Also who is gonna pay for the drinks, gloves, bags, etc? We don't pay a fee to join so cliff doesn't get money from us unless the advertising covers the bills and then some. I don't think it should be cliff or the admin teams responsibility. Someone can ask around but businesses have a hard enough time providing donations for non-profit organizations. Prizes shouldn't be needed for this, at one previous cleanup I met a few members and had a few people to fish with. Way better than a prize. If this can hit the ground running I will be there! Spoopity
if this is organized i would probably help out. one of my favorite spots is littered with broken glass and beer cans, etc. last year we took a garbage bin there and clean up before we started fishing, not even a month later someone dumped the garbage back on our spot and threw the bin into the water now there are garbage bags there and a recycling bin and people still manage to miss the bin or just not use it. Hey Split-shot, Go back and read the thread in early Spring about littering in the Gorge. In the past couple of months I've made several phone calls and emails to the NPC staff in an attempt to organize a merged community clean-up event (exactly what you are calling us out for). I've also been in touch with a writer from the Niagara Review who has extensive experience with these types of events, and who has agreed to try to write an article about such an event, should it take place. My friend is also in the Environmental Conservation program at Niagara College, and he, along with some of his classmates have volunteered to collaborate efforts with us as well. If you've ever had any experience trying to organize any kind of event, you would know that it's not as easy-peasy as you make it sound. There are many bureaucratic barriers that must be overcome before these ever-so-appealing ideas fruition into reality. For example, I had to wait for the NPC to go through the whole process of rehiring their seasonal staff before we could even begin planning a volunteer clean-up event. I'm sorry though, I was probably bragging about it too much that you pushed that fact to the back of your mind and forgot about it.... So I guess the real question is: When all is said and done, and we finally get an event organized for this summer, will YOU put your money where your mouth is, and come out and help?
