jesse
You would need to know if you were in deep enough water so you would not be hitting bottom. If you can get out to at least 80 feet deep or better & fish 30-50 feet down you will get fish.It is a long way out from dalhousie so i would suggest finding another yaker to go out with.pick your day carefully! CLofchik
Biggest problem is figuring out which system you'll use to get your baits deep, some use Dipsy's, some downriggers, I like Torpedo Divers. Absolute minimum rigging required is a rigger rod, line counter reel, GPS, half a dozen spoons and a stout rod holder. You can get by without a sonar and just pick waypoints from a nav chart site or program and that will get you in the ballpark. The fish in Lake O relate more to temp than depth, and trolling speed can be critical. So I'd say a GPS is necessary and a sonar is a luxury. There are alot of online tools to help you get started: Temp & weather forecast to atleast let you know where your best chances are and what depth. http://www.glerl.noaa.gov/res/glcfs/ Online chart viewer that displays lat/lon. http://marine.geogarage.com/routes Use the NOAA info to find 40-50 degree water, use the chart viewer to set waypoints at the depth you want, go fishing. If you just want to dip your toes in pick a flat calm day, paddle out 2 miles and drag around a deep diving crankbait, even add a few ounces of lead keel sinker infront. Stick at it long enough and you'll blunder into a rainbow or shaker salmon.
cdnfishguy11
If you wait another 3 weeks youll be able to troll right off the peirs at dawn and dusk !
Dogman
You could do like I do and just vertical jig. It works if you can find some fish on your sonar.
