I fished the rec.today with Madam & Bassmaster12 and my cousin Bob joined us for a couple hours . Fishing was very slow .....got 4 rock bass , a dink perch and one with four legs . The ice varied from hole to hole , up to 4 " near the rowing club & only 1.5" about 200 meters south of us .....not safe .....broke my steel stud bar in half while checking the ice . Nice to see captnn out there , take care Nick ! Got a few shots.........

What are you guys using for bait/lures around there? I tried ice fishing today (Hamilton Harbour) for the first time for a couple of hours; friend started to complain he was cold so we left with out catching anything but still had fun...

We spent a solid 1/2 day at the pond. The perch eluded many today, but not all of us. We managed to land 2 dozen perch tween the 3 of us. The largest being 12"

Nice looking perch, I love pan fish through the ice. Might try out the back bays tomorrow if its safe still.. Fingers crossed.

DocBob & I did well in the drizzle today . Bob got all the monster perch & I got a nice bass on my large PIKE minnow . The ice will melt to unsafe levels after the warm spell ,so we decided to take advantage of the last day of ice fishing locally for a week or more . The rec. canal near John Deer is even thinner ice than Martindale ....be very wary of going out there tomorrow ! I just cleaned up my perch for tomorrow's dinner . Bob has more cleaning to do than I haha......this is his catch du jour ......those 3 big ones are all over 12"

Beautiful colours on those!

What have they been eating?

Sunfish , drifter . They will hit the small Rap jigs that have blue gill/sunfish colours . It helps to tip them with a live maggot or small minnow head or tail .

Very seldom seen a worm in the flesh of fish from Martindale , unlike a lot perch that has worms from some northern lakes , like St.John Lake just north of Casino Rama . The water in Martindale Pond is almost all from Lake Erie & when it rains hard like today , runoff from Richarson's Creek is predominant .

even though the water started in lake erie it still flows through lake gibson which i believe has tainted sediment

Ended up going out to check for myself. Off from Rennie park, there were two guys out but you could see open water and so I didn't want to risk it.Back bay has about 4"...

Rennie today had appx 4" of ice as far as timing tower, with a few poor patches.

The back side off Martindale had thin, soft ice for the first 10-15' along the shoreline, and not worth the attempt

I went to backside today and shoreline was really sketchy... Did give it a try but definitely had to be cautious. I did see others go out to some spots that were thin and I hope everyone was okay.

I took a look see at the ponds today , but fishing out there wasn't going to happen yet . I hope by Tuesday I can spud my way to a few spots and by then the water vis. will be better than today . I took this shot from the Henley Is. bridge where you can see the current is still strong , flowing north into Rennie Park bay . I know the current pattern there & as bigugli said , watch for thin ice beyond the starter building and also close to it as the current goes right past there to join the 12 Mile current toward the Lincoln Fabrics building . Give it another 2-3 days to make another inch or two of ice before going out ......and please don't trust the Henley Is. shoreline to walk south to the pond there . The 12 Mile current runs all along that shoreline to the little bridge . One of our guys went through there a few yrs.back .

Henley Island Bridge , looking north with Rennie Park in the background......On a "normal" winter , this is frozen over from shore to shore......

these guys are on thin ice , not wise to bunch up like that ......anyone here ?
