Tom S
My first try at a classic spey fly tonight... based loosely off a Lady Caroline, accounting for the materials I have at hand. I've got a lot of learning to do yet. There's a bit more to these then a clouser or a nymph, I was doing OK up to the wings. I even managed to counter-rib the hackle without much trouble. Just couldn't get the wings to sit properly.
ron4blues
Looks good to me! And yes, wings are always the tough part.
DaveC
I made some past attempts at those as well, and yes the wings are a pain to get right.

Tom S
What were you using for hackle Dave? I was using pheasant rump, but I couldn't get it to sweep down nicely like yours.
DaveC
I am using a spey hackle Tom, just keep stroking it down on every wrap. Started tip first then wrapped between the tinsel, really stroking it downward as you go towards the eye. That part was easy....wings are a pita. I destroyed about 10 sets and still not happy with the results. I watched a few guys do the wings and they make it look easy....im a slow learner....lol
