Fraser38
Just picked up my first kayak yesterday and can't wait to get it out. Anyone else fish the upper niagara near fort erie or the welland river?
spiro
Nice ride. I was in the Welland river today. Not fishing, just for a relaxing paddle and a beverage with a friend. Message me if you need a partner in crime.

Fraser38
It's 12ft it's an ascend fs12t. I think I'll be trying erie on the calm days next spring/summer for sure
RJR
Nice Yak. I have an older version of the same boat. I use it mostly up north on smaller lakes and rivers. It is surprisingly very stable in rough water and other boats wake.
YoungYakker
That's not the 80 pound boat that ascend makes I hope! That would be fun to muscle up ontop of a car haha! You're going to love kayak fishing! Instant stress relief! Even better when you boat fish! I have a tarpon 120 and I love it. I have big plans for next years season! The welland river is fun to kayak but it can get choppy with boats whizzing by. I went on labour day and it was tsunami friendly. a small anchor helps.. caught a bass by the park up at the Niagara river entrance. Aswell as a segal picked up my lure and it lucked out and avoided a hook in the bill... look forward to seeing your adventure reports on here! Hendo
Now is the time to start rigging her up for spring
Fraser38
Think it was 74 pounds without any gear. I put it on and off the wife's 2013 kia sportage without killing myself I'm sure I'll get used to it on my car. Just picked up a humminbird pirhanamax 175 for it today and will probably get the transducer glued in and head mounted one night this week
Fraser38
Got the head installed just have to grab some marine goop for the transducer. Going to make a battery tray to fit inside the hull as well for the small marine battery

Fraser38
Will do. I'm considering a morning float Friday in the welland river as long as it doesn't rain. I can't stare at it in the garage much longer
spiro
If you go give me a pm. Also make sure to wear a vest and cold weather protection. Have fun
Hendo
I would but i have no float suit dont want to chance it
Fraser38
I don't have a suit either but will be dressing warm with something waterproof and a life vest. Water temp isn't crazy cold yet. Shouldn't be any boats to dodge out there
Fraser38
Looks like the weather won't cooperate tomorrow anyways. Going to be windy with flurries. Not really ideal conditions to try out my first kayak
Finsanity
Careful it's not a great idea.
dwc67
Careful it's not a great idea. x2 if you do go out remember "keep your head in the boat" this keeps your weight in the yak and you from tipping. turning around to get something behind you and not thinking about position can cause your head to lean out and can flip you, so be aware
Fraser38
Won't be out until the spring now. There's a lot of ice starting to build now in the creeks and rivers.
