... well the past few nights have had ice growth on the surface of the waters (areas with few waves) in the region, mostly gone by noon once the sun is up, ... so the temps aren't much above zero in most of the area ...

Doesn't hurt to take a drive down to your spot.

In the daytime , if there is fresh trash and dead smelt strewn about, its on.

In the evening if there are enough cars around to look like a used car lot, its on.

You have a short window of when this happens too. So you may need to be proactive about it, because nobody will advertise it.

My spot is 100% private. There will not be anyone there but me.

I'm all for sharing spots of equal value.

There's an old saying ......"If you want to play ......you have to pay"

I patronize the independent tackle shops from here to Napannee , depending where I am when I need tackle .  The knowledge and personal service  is invaluable .

  • 2 weeks later...

I have a plan to try on Thursday if things come together - weather, wind. I will post the results. If not this week they should be running by next week. Lake Erie temp is being reported as 38ºF.

The water temp off Buffalo is 37ºF. Smelt time is supposed to be around 40-42ºF. Time should be right just need to get a good day when I can can access the water without needing a scuba suit.
