Well back I was for more action at Jordan harbour, brought my pike and trout rod looking for some, well, pike or trout. I wasn't surprised when I ended up with a perch and a bass since I always catch fish i'm not geared for. What I wasn't expecting was to get my personal best perch while casting for trout with a #5 blue fox vibrax.

At least you got out, I went to the glen this afternoon and had to turn around due to craziness out there.....Never seen that many people in my life in this area...I bet you its all those folks from the areas where everything is shut down due to covid.  That's the pool parking lot:

Fishing for pike , using a 10'6" rod, a float , #4 Aberdeen hooks , and 3-4" minnows . Tried one spot ....very breezy ,no hits.  another spot was out of the wind and a few small perch tried their best to swallow the minnows , too small for keeping .  THEN ...finally the float slowly went under ...set the hook , and it started to peel out the line ...lots of line . I was thinking it may spool me as my Shimano 2000 doesn't carry a lot of line . It turned around and headed back my way ....big pike ???   musky ??? Looking forward to catching a nice toothy one .......  Well it was over 10 lbs ........and was tooth - less .  My "pike" today was a blast to catch on the light rod !

Went down this evening to fish the last hour of daylight, thought i'd go for some late season pike, and I know this meant my odds of hooking up with a trout if anything were good since half the time I go there for pike I get a trout, half the time I cast for trout I get a pike.....and tonight didn't disappoint

This old Grump wasn't letting a little weather get in the way today. All the crops are done. Spent the morning baking and canning. Time for some well deserved R & R. Off to the Welland R. to one of my sweet spot. Had rain, sun and lots of wind.Had lots of hungry fish over 3 1/2 hours of fishing.  A few bass, a pike, 2 bite offs ,and a hundred or so pannies like these. Man do I love the fall feeding frenzy. Biggest was just shy of 10"

When I saw the tim bits boxes I thought someone(s) have been into the weed , seen lots of that going on at fishing holes .

I usually have a green garbage bag in my back pack but only had a Wally bag which I used to wrap my maize bag . I had to flatten down the pop/beer cans etc to get it all in the Wally bag .
At least 3 swivels with the steel leader Scott .  Maybe there's too much drag from the fast current without the swivels . I was surprised my line held up dislodging that contraption from the depths of the strong current .
There was a lot of light brown foam running down the current line at the 12 ....possibly some industrial waste from Gibby/Thorold area (paper mill ? )
I had to pick up some meds for my dog near Port Dal .,so I checked for minnows ....shad still in there (feeding the trout) . They have a huge eyeball for a little fish ....too bad they can't be used for bait .
....a few more shots from yesterdays excursion..... ( shad , foam at 12 , new barrier at 12 parking lot)
    Right on Dave  !!

Water was very high & fast & about 1 ft. viz. , using 2 oz. of lead but changing currents still moved weight about ....using corn bags for carp ,then shrimp for channels , or anything else .  It got very noisy down there as several big jet liners passed by just above the clouds about 5 minutes apart . That spot is usually clean of garbage but some trashy people left their mark behind today ....couldn't stand to leave it so cleaned it up when I left . The main parking lot at Glendale has been closed ...looks permanent as a result of the oil that was dumped there ....
But I came home with another treasure .....a tough fight in the current , after 60 -70 ft. of red braid a nice spinner bait emerged !

A first for me. Used a few different lures and had one hit.
Decided to use my #5 Vibrax which doesn't get much use.
First cast fish on, a sheephead of all things.
Well at least I know I won't have the white stripe today.
Second cast same area, pike on, nice size as well.
A few more casts and nothing. Moved around using different
lures, after a half hour, back to the earlier spot, and yep, put the Vibrax back on.
Few casts later another pike. Nice I thought.
Few more casts yet another pike.
Feeling pretty good, that's for sure.
Decided to change areas, and keep the vibrax on.
One more fish to finish the day, an bass.
All fish caught on the Vibrax, a first for me.
T'was a good day on the water.

You really have to look at everything.  Six years ago my buddy bought a very expensive, beautiful huge cottage on Lake Muskoka near Port Carling. One of the many plus's is how close it is to this area (I've made it in 3 hours) and you can come and go when you want to avoid peak traffic periods. The fishing is suprisingly good, very few of the local billionaires fish. It is rated one of the top 10 big pike lakes in Ontario and the bass and walleye fishing is also good. In 15 minutes I can boat to the grocery store and beer/ liquor stores that have their own docks. There are restaurants, golf courses, pharmacies and a hospital in the immediate area, something that's very important as we age. The deer are everywhere, it's not often you drive down the cottage road without seeing a few. On the other hand, the lake can be very busy with a lot of jet skiers and cigarette hulls. In the last few year he did a new cedar roof on main cottage, garages and boathouse to the tune of 90,000. New furnace and a/c units 46,000, new water systems 16,000, generator  15,000. His property taxes are 14,000 per year along with cottage association fees, road maintenance dues and snowploughing. The hydro costs are atrocious. Needless to say, my buddy can afford it but me- not in my wildest dreams. I am so grateful to have full use of it in exchange for a lot of the maintenance. Everything up there is so expensive now although further north is not as high but those 6-7 hour drives get old very quickly. With numbers like these, that trailer in a waterfront park starts to look pretty reasonable.

Yes , many are paying 10 grand and some with the larger park mobile homes are paying more than double that . Our son & wife are paying 15 grand ....right on the lake side. Frankly , as an angler , I don't see the attraction there .
....quick update ....my stepson's trailer is now $18,000 per year ....kaka chingggg  !!!

For me to justify those prices it really depends how much are you going to use it and if it ticks all the boxes for what you need. To me its too much money for something I don't own.

All is well. The house was actually shaking last night when some of the waves hit the retaining wall.
Power was off from 10:20am til 3:15pm. A tree fell on the line at the cemetery at Reeb's bay.
