I have fished all those places Surf ,  and I totally agree . I had a lot of fun catching the silvers at the hydro plant in the the spring.  We used to fish below the dam at Lock 1 at the canal and always caught a good variety of fish ....and smelts . All closed to fishing now .
We still have the morons who screw it up for the rest of us (one bad apple....) ,and of course the numb nuts who leave their garbage . I tossed a huge ball of line in the garbage at Port Dal. yesterday . Today I was at Welland & it's usually  clean at the fishing spots .

I try to bring them home alive , let them have their last swim together in the laundry tub for an hour or two , then a quick tap on the head with my bonker . After a quick prayer , they get treated to a Rapala filleting knife , skin removed , bathed in clean cold water  , patted dry on paper towels and off to a nice warm frying pan . Any blood in the flesh gets treated like a medium rare steak ....down the hatch !

Back in the 50's we would go with our fathers to ice fish at the Lake of Bays for lake trout . We were told to carry out a few pine branches to mark all holes we cut , using spuds . That served three purposes ....  to use the next day , to get water for cooking and to warn others .  That is all in the past now .

Nice catch Mark. My stepson is moving to Dain city from Hamilton in April new house being built, very close to the old canal.
He's been bugging his mother and me to do the same.🤔😀 If we did I think I'd be on the water every day.👍😀

Bill, thats not Welland expansion along Rice Rd., thats Pelham.
Their plan is for 5,000 new housing units to eventually go into that area over the next few years!

As for the Rec canal, I had submitted a 4-page proposal to Welland city council several years ago to place fish habitat structure at several places in the bottom of the rec canal to improve protective habitat and spawning sites, since the canal bottom is so structureless, but the city never did anything with it.
They were interested only in improving the canal for rowing to draw rowing events there, and didn’t care about the local fisherman.

I couldn't believe the housing going up along Rice  Rd. yesterday !  Welland is expanding at a super fast pace . Enjoy the fishing while we still have access . I think they should stock it heavily with rainbow trout !

Beautiful day. Just waiting for the fish to cooperate. It's been at least a year for me and the canoe so nice to just get out. Found some. 23 keepers almost all caught in an hour.

Lots of rain lately and more this evening (and now) ....The "dewies" are fatter and very plentiful tonight and I picked a couple dozen in 10 minutes . The soil is well saturated and the worms have bounced back after a hot dry summer . Get them while it lasts as cooler temps. are on the way and the pickings will be slim.....They will grace my 3 way worm harness rigs in the very near future .
For a thought .......does anyone remember this little nursery rhyme from "back in the day"  ?
      The worm song ......
"Nobody likes me , everybody hates me ,
Going to the garden to eat worms , yum yum ,
Big fat juicy ones , long thin slimy ones ,
Itsy bitsy fuzzy wuzzy worms ... yum yum !

    we need to laff ........

Fish Farmer reacted to smerchly in Fish dinner !
It's been a couple of weeks or more and I haven't wet a line ( looks like it's contagious) . It's been way to hot for this bird to leave the basement !  It has finally cooled off to reasonable temps !!   But we haven't gone without our fish dinners !   We had some haddock again today  (so good) !  They have been very busy each time I go there ....had to call 3 times to place an order . I believe many more people have gotten used to getting their dinners from the small take outs like this , or KFC and drive through places since restrictions on the sit in restaurants . We will probably never see the inside  of those places again with the new passport law . On the plus side I have saved a few grand over two years and haven't got gas for about 6 weeks  !
Looking good to finally wet a line or three tomorrow ( carp guys can say that) !   I have a parking pass for Dalhousie , so maybe give those worms a drink and catch a fresh water fish for our next dinner !
  13. Thanks

I’m so happy the weather has finally cooled. The last two weeks of 40 degrees has been brutal working.  I haven’t fished in a few weeks either.  Working too much and no rain days. Hopefully I’ll get out in my yak for some kings in the next couple nights (stocked up in glow spoons).
good luck tomorrow smerch. Hopefully you’ll catch some dinner.

For those with an i pilot with remote only who miss their  pedal. I came up with this for my buddy who fishes bass mostly up at Jack Lake  and loves i pilot features but hates trying to use the remote when fighting a fish, or manouvering around tight spots! Very simple and works like a charm! Built from things i had laying around!

Congrats Grant Point, does your name tell where you fished and did you fish in shallow.
One thing about fishing body baits you don't have to worry about worms and the mud that goes with them👍😀
Your not missing much fishing with leadcore, it's not a fun way to reel-in a fish, so I've been told, it's about the same thing as winching your boat onto the trailer.😓🤪😀

Says at where she is doing the marinade Sunflower oil, salt&pepper Lemon juice but that stuff she pored over the fish after she didn't say or the greens she used to stuff.
But I think the fish came from the tank at Fortino's😀

I'd like to know all the ingredients she used ....like what kind of oil ,  and what wood was used for the smoke ,etc.

I noticed the tall reeds in the back ground  ....looks very similar to the 10 ft. tall reeds we have here taking over our waterways .

No the yaleye hooligans will go down 30 ft on its own and I also used a yaleye mooneye minnow with a snap on weight after letting out 30 ft. I am new to eye fishing so I've been experimenting with different set ups. Would like to try leadcore one day. The mooneye off the planner board worked good. Fishing with my dad and he's old school and doesn't enjoy all the setups with the dipsydivers and all, hard on the wrist at times.

Not a bad for a few hours out today. Not a bite for about 1 hour and told my father let's call it quits and then bam we got a double header. Stayed for about another hour and a half and ended up with 5.
