I love the questions about my house. When they asked how much money I would want if selling my house, I typed in 10 million dollars. Next question was please confirm that price.HAHAHA..................Daniel

Finally got a turkey this morning!
    19.5 Pounds
    9 1/2 inch beard
    1 1/2 inch spurs
I have been after a flock on the family farm since the 26th, but haven't been able to get close enough for a shot, as they are roosting on the treeline on the east (river)  side of a big 15+ acre bean field, and keep flying into the field, and are always out of range.
Finally this morning I got up real early and set up quietly along the treeline near the roost.
Had this tom fly down at 6:00 and he walked into range within 3 minutes after flying down!

Lots of trout in there this year but they are tiny, 8" to 12".  The place was packed this weekend, I go there three times a week with my kids since we live 10 min away, we catch bass and panfish during the summer months.

Oh BTW, Port D piers are both open! Went for a walk yesterday morning on the East pier, what an awesome job they did!  Might go back there this evening with a rod!

I watched a few documentaries last week.  Most documentaries about the environment are very politically slanted. We can’t argue that the planet is warming in the short time period we have measured.  That is fact.  But what we can’t know is how much are we as humans causing the warming.  Hence the political arguments.

One thing I realized from watching, non political......and this wasn’t even the point they were trying to make....

There are simply too many humans on this planet.  In nature if one species becomes too populated in an area Mother Nature will balance that out eventually if she is left to do so.  Ex... too many rabbits?  Well then the coyotes will thrive until there’s less rabbits than the coyotes won’t thrive anymore.  Balance.  One small example.

So the main problem is that we humans have no predators on this earth and all we do is consume and make our own changes to the environment.  No other species can do that.   We also get more efficient at everything we do (such as farming, hunting, fishing).  Everyone knows the planet has limited resource.

We are replacing natural land which has animals and trees with buildings and unnatural farmland so that all of us overpopulated humans can have all that we have.  Less trees and less natural dirt (our refined farming methods are destroying those lands, and we need so much of it to feed the people), may in the end be the greatest environmental challenge we have.

Im not sure how or when but one day there will be a reckoning.  And that wasn’t necessarily a religious prediction.   The Earth and its resources are only so vast.  One day we won’t be able thrive like this.

Not sure why I felt like typing all that...

Well I went out to beaverdams after work for an hour or so to test out my new light combo. Caught a few bluegill, had a good time.

The one thing I wanted to share was, I found this pile of fish carcasses by the shore... Looked to be like 4 or 5 good size bass and a few smaller fish, maybe bluegills?

Is it worth reporting to the MNR or anything?

Lots of new anglers out there (covid release)...Some will drive from T.O .to fish here , some know the regs , some know but don't abide ....
An elder from T.O. just asked me if he needed a licence to fish here ?  Some don't know one species from another ....
Anyone can get a license with zero knowledge of fish I.D. or  quotas . That needs to change, a written test would help ,thus no excuse for ignoring the rules .  We certainly need more MNR people to keep up to the increase in anglers .
Looks like the "angler" kept the eggs too ...

They will bite again, you are allowed to C&R.  When the weather gets warmer that pond will kill the trout do to lack of oxygen and warm water.

That said, trout in that specific pond should be catch and keep only since they are a stock fish with poor survival rate when released.

I would be more concerned about the people that go there and keep the 40 fish they catch when nobody else is around.

Well I just stability tested this new kayak.  Got caught out there in some big wind and waves.  People must have thought I have a death wish.  I got only a little wet and the boat was incredibly stable.  I was t far from my launch.  No fish but quite a workout coming back into the current and waves.   Home safe now.

I was thinking the same. With the amount of Lakers around right now I think it could work.  Tube jigs, lipless cranks same methods as ice fishing.

I jig the mouth or the Niagara Bar and prefer this method for this location. The Bar is like a big shelf that holds a smorgasbord for hungry feeding fish. Drifting while presenting a jig, spoon, three way rig with minnows or roe, or anything vertical is the technique most commonly used. But when fishing out on the main lake I think vertical jigging is tough unless you have found some sort of transition point or structure holding fish. Vertical jigging is not a search method but is a great method once you locate them. Again this is only an opinion but works for me.

Tube jigs can be good. Blade baits too (heavy, good feel/contact in choppy water).

I have seen videos of anglers jigging deep water at the mouth of the River for lake trout ....using heavy lures like the Crippled Herring (I have some)  , also saw videos of jigging for lake trout on Lake Simcoe , using large twisters . Maybe the lakers at Jordan would hit the jigs , and other fish too .

Why wouldn't you have tried it already? 🤪 I would not do it blindly though, have a fish finder at least to try the busy areas or structures.

I am aware of other boats successfully jigging for trout this time of year.  I’m also assuming they wouldn’t just vertical jig but likely cast and jig back to the boat.

If I ever need a rest I’ll do this for a while.  I’ve never been successful though.  In the summer this technique would work great for drum, walleye and bass in Lake Erie.

Or as suggested, paddle out to a spot near a tributary or creek mouth, bring a long rod, cast your spoon, spinner, hardbait or softbait just like shore.

I am guessing you mean for trout or salmon. If trolling is not an option you are better off casting over jigging. You will cover more water and also have more reaction strikes.

Being restricted during the winter months was a little easier because of the cold days and short daylight hours . We do not want to lose our spring/summer time  on the water again like last year .
Today I read there were more drug related deaths in B.C. than covid deaths .....I hope they lighten up on outdoor activities .
    Fishing tomorrow .....
