  1. I know the ramp is closed but is parking still available for shore anglers?
  2. Maggoty are very easy to keep and farm. You can keep them all year with minimal effort. A good source for the larger maggots is the pet store.
  3. Definitely can’t even shoot a pellet gun from your property. In my area it was minimum 10 acres and now it was increased to 18.1 acres. Your only hope is to get permission and shoot from the farm behind you. You can’t shoot from 1.5 acres even if you have permission to hunt the land behind you. But check with your local bylaws to be certain or a confiscation of your firearms and a $5000 fine is sure to follow. It is getting tougher to shoot on our own property as hunters as the developers grab more agricultural land and turn it to residential.
  4. You mentioned you are across the road from a subdivision. I don’t know where you live but in most areas the local townships have adopted a no discharge within 450 metres of any planned subdivision. Although a firearm is usually based on over 500 FPS your municipality will include all firearms even under 500 FPS so that means pellet guns, compound and crossbows. Just saying....be careful because laws are definitely not in favour of us hunters anymore and a discharge of a firearm is not a light charge to deal with. Maybe building a more secure enclosure for your chickens might be your only optio
  5. Sub sonic .22 is not enough to shoot a coyote and be humane. As for a compound bow the coyote will still run in most cases. If you are going to dispatch the coyote do it with a proper round. A wounded coyote is much more dangerous than a healthy coyote. A wounded coyote will also try to find shelter near a good food source as in the subdivision across the road. You are either legal to discharge a firearm or your not. Even with the argument of protecting your land/animals you still can’t discharge a firearm if it’s not legal to hunt that particular piece of land. Shoot it with the proper calibe
  6. Well done. Certainly was a nice day.
  7. Before Covid I would use the launch across the river. So much better, parking is great, no lineups (rarely) live bait if you want it. So for a short drive it is worth it to me. I will continue to use the US launch when borders open. The queenston launch is a joke for parking and lineups. Some people have either never learned boat launch etiquette or they just don’t care. I don’t get that on the US side. Hopefully they build a proper launch with an in and out at least and have dedicated parking for launch users with trailers. I don’t mind the cost to launch as almost every other launch has a fe
  8. Your absolutely correct. Both hut operators I called said they are almost booked for weekends through the season. The weekdays are still open. I know one of the operators personally and he said it might be his best season in a long time if they don’t get shutdown. I use my own hut, move when I want, cook some fresh fish, keep to myself and enjoy the time on the hard water. Plus I can pick and choose from so many areas and species within 2 minutes to 30 minutes.
  9. So I called 2 hut operators to find out what the policy is for them. 1st operator said you must wear a mask while travelling to and from the hut and must wear gloves. They will take more than one group at a time following the mask and glove rule. In the hut you do what you want with who you want. 2nd operator said you must wear a mask and gloves to and from your hut and he will only take one group at a time to the huts. Both are from Lake Simcoe.
  10. My go to when at the whirlpool is float fishing
  11. Did you use the neighbours 4 year kid to hold the perch so it looks bigger 😋
  12. Some of my favourite type of fish to target is panfish. Well done Bruce and enjoy the good eats.
  13. I fished with a guy this summer that used a unit that he casted out but had a wireless unit. It was interesting and showed bottom structure and depth pretty accurately. He used it with very heavy braided line.
  14. I use a similar setup from shore but I have a sliding weight and add a float to the end of the line. Cast out and start reeling till the float goes to the bottom against the weight. Now with control release line maybe 2 feet at a time until the float comes to the surface. Not only does this work to measure the depth you can drag the weight on the bottom to find out what type of bottom there is. If you find a weed edge and want to concentrate on that area leave your float system out as a marker. I use a sliding swivel for the weight to remove the sinker when transporting or changing sizes and a
  15. I’m at Bingemans on the Grand River and I’m about $4000 right on the river.
  16. So I haven’t been down that way in quite a while is the fishing closed off on the east side or is it still accessible for shore fishing? I am guessing the west side is still closed off for us to fish. Do I need to bring the boat?
  17. If it’s a conservation issue call MNR tip line. If it’s trespassing call the police. FYI the tip line works. I called it and the officer was there in 30 minutes and issued all fines and no warnings for using 3 and 4 rods and another for no license.
  18. Looks great. I find you need to be careful using on a hook because the hook can bury itself in the bag. On a hair the hook is always exposed. I use a super gel corn scent made by pro cure. Just spread some on the bag before presenting the bait. Stays on for a very long time.
  19. I have been using mesh for corn for so many years. It works great and I soak them with scent when fishing in a group of people to make it stand out. Remember carp can smell scents from up to a half km away. Their eyesight is impeccable so once they get close it’s easy for them to hone in so I don’t make big bags. I do have some of the Thundermist catch a carp pouches to sample but find them all most too big. But no doubt about it fished on a hair now worries from current or gobies. I know when I retrieve my line there is still bait on my hook.
  20. I have noticed with the warmer water that I have been successful this past few weeks fishing the deeper water. My carp fishing moves from 10 feet to 30 feet within an hour of sunrise.
  21. Have a great weekend Tyler. Smerch I had a screamer on this morning but lost it about a minute after I set the hook. Still out here hoping for another.
  22. When I need to float my corn off the bottom I add a piece of fake floating corn. Works for me and actually worked today.
