Why the gun laws don't work

Did any of you happen to notice the article in the paper this week about the  man from Niagara Falls N.Y. stopped at the Rainbow Bridge while trying to enter Canada. He was apparently sent to secondary inspection where his car was searched completely and nothing was found. A dog was then brought in and it started barking at the rear of the vehicle. A closer inspection revealed a specially constructed hidden compartment containing 20 illegal handguns. I don't know the exact date this happened but his court case is now finished and he was sentenced to 3 years. He is now being released for time served while awaiting trial. In my opinion he should have received 3 years for each gun. Having a specially constructed compartment like that shows this was not his first rodeo. I wonder how many guns he brought across before getting caught. How come we see no comments in the media from Trudeau Liberals, Bill Blair, and the various gun control groups who are only intent on removing legally owned and registered firearms from lawful owners?

Good points Verado,

You won't see it in the media because it doesn't fit with the official narrative.

Even in the Nova Scotia shooting they downplayed to this day that the perpetrator wasn't licensed and had used illegally obtained smuggled guns from the US. On top of that he had been reported by two separate people to the RCMP of violent behaviour and possessing illegal firearms, with neither complaint being acted on. They said that one of the guns was of Canadian origin then later admitted that it was the sidearm taken from the Mountie he killed. If they simply would have enforced several already enacted laws the tragedy could have likely been avoided. The shooting of the RCMP officers out in Alberta a few years ago followed a very similar scenario.

Criminal don't abide by laws. If they aren't afraid of shooting someone in cold blood, or being shot,  they certainly won't be afraid of breaking possession laws. There is a large and growing segment of our population that doesn't share our cultural beliefs, value our freedoms, way of life, value of life, or work ethic,  that built our country and think that's it's cool and a viable way of life to carry and freely use a gun and know that their are few repercussions. Until their is political will to address this the issue will get worse before it gets better no matter how many guns they ban.

Couldn't have said it better Surf & Turf

Totally agree . They were talking about it on the radio an hour ago . It's nothing but a huge plot to get the people who know nothing about it on side , and spending millions of their own dollars for NOTHING !  The bad guys will continue to use their unregistered guns and the "soft on crime" Liberals will keep letting them out of jail early to keep the circus going . Mr.T. knows how to work the numbers & toss lots of money  to get his voting base secured .

As long as USA relaxed laws on guns exists, illegal weapons will always make their way into Canada. Not illegal or restricted there, but here. This is why most gun crimes are hand guns. Easy to smuggle.

New York is not the wild west, the gun laws there are almost as anal as the ones in Canada. Every state is different , typically the areas of the highest crime rates have the strictest gun laws , if that makes any sense.

Next item on the Liberal to do list,  end Drunk Driving!

Liberals are thinking about banning, high power, "Race grade sports cars" to eradicate drunk driving.

I can hear it now. Drunk drivers kill thousands of citizens every year and unlike the Harper government we are going to end it once and for all. There is no place in our society for High power "Racing grade sports cars" !

Even four cylinder Mustangs will be on the list because they look scary!

Just kidding, but no more ludicrous than the "Assault Weapon" ban.

One other reason it won't work ... 3D printers ... better ban them as well.

a 3D printed gun is more dangerous to the person holding it than in front of it
