  1. I have caught a ton of pike on spinners. They're actually one of my favorite baits to throw for pike. To be fair though, bass will hit almost anything you throw for pike, sometimes it's tough to avoid. Just gotta be super quick with the release if you do get an oos bass.
  2. I only ever ice fish there with 2 rods, which is allowed most places anyway. I didnt check the regs on the two rod thing yet for the Grand specifically. I only use one rod anyhow. I think I'd be a mess with two lines in. I was thinking more along the lines of just because its off Erie... Speaking of two lines, theres a guy on the YouTubes that I think fishes Erie with downriggers from the yak for Salmon. Kinda neat.
  3. That things a hog. I'll have to give it a watch later. Two rods only up to the dam I believe, no?
  4. For Carp and cats, I really just fish for them using my oldest and cheapest rods. I dont have all that carp specific gear and the rod just lays there on the groud propped up with a Y twig or a small bush. Carolina Rig with a circle hook and I find white bread or corn works well. Definitelynot half the carp pro you are lol Ah yeah, I dont have a pedal Kayak. Just a simple Pelican Catch 120 (Want to upgrade, but if she ain't broke...). It's fited with a trolling motor. There's some back eddys that I sat in last year not too far from the Port Maitland launch. Nice n Shallow. Your poles would work in those spots.
  5. He is a brother I wouldn't trade for anything. Bit of a smart-ass sometimes, but all good brotherly fun lol. Tried for cats from the kayak last year, but I'll be honest. I gotta work on the yak a bit for the Grand and get an anchor system for the or else you're drifting. The trolling motor will help getting to spots, but I want to be more stationary. The other thing too, is that I was using the wrong weights for the grand... But I did grab some catfish rigs with 2oz weights from Grand River Outdoors... I used them on the 12 and they produced. Let me know when you go Tyler, If I'm off I'd be down.
  6. If you go north with the yak, what do you plan on targeting and how far north are you talkin'?
  7. Definitely want to kayak the Grand more in search of a giant cats... since the spot I normally would go to on the 12 is overrun by the homeless. Launch out of Port Maitland. Then when trout opens and I like to hit up the streams for brookies until Pike opens. So far, I have a week off in July that I will more than likely do a backcountry trip couple lakes in somewhere. Also toying with staying at a cabin on Rice Lake in the October for some fishing/relaxing for a few days before continuing on to Quebec possibly. Other than that,no other trips planed. And truthfully, my brother has been getting into the carp fishing. I may join him for some of that in the spring.
  8. Deja-vu from last year indeed... Got a week of local fishable ice again. Only difference for me this year is I had a little time off to fish it lol.
  9. Thats got to be the one I'm thinking of... It was near the train station end of St Paul
  10. Agreed. Fonthill is way less busy.
  11. There was an Army surplus store in St Catharines on St Paul that sold "dog spray" on a keychain. It's been a while since I lived in the city and I barely go there now so I don't know if that store still exists. I'm sure you can find that spray in other stores though. A girl I used to work with carried it.

    Snooping

Was just looking at the 14 day forecast. Pretty excited to have another crack at local ice.

    Ice????

How cold we talking? Would love another crack at local ice.
  14. Just seen this. For looking up Crown Land (for camping), I use the Crown Land Atlas. https://www.ontario.ca/page/crown-land-use-policy-atlas
  15. I remember my father telling me about this when I was a kid, but I have never tried scaling a fish and keeping the skin on like that. With the exception of trout where I will cook whole or steamed skin down (but no scaling), I fillet most fish.
  16. Try looking on Air BnB too if you wanted to stay in Innisfil there's some properties worth checking out. It's a big lake so potential for some big fish. Lake Simcoe has all those species.
  17. Definitely a great spot for carp and Cats. Last year I went a couple times to get a line wet, but it made for an uncomfortable feeling of not being safe not to mention they've made a complete mess of the area on both sides. I just found myself looking over my shoulder a fair bit, so I put a bell on my rod lol RBR was also great for channel cats... Haven't fished there in years though.
  18. Great catch! Happy New Year.
  19. Great catch! Looks like a nice couple dinners
  20. Top three Jay Siemens Uncut Angling Clayton Schick I generally tend to like the channels that come out of Canada. More relatable content I suppose.
