  1. Hi…I am a certified Archery Coach and used to provide free instruction to kids interested in getting into the sport of archery. I have hunted and shot competitive and non-competitive archery for many years with both compound bows, recurve and crossbows. In my opinion…If you are looking for a bow to hunt turkeys and or white tailed deer with then a crossbow will be easier and quicker to dial in and shoot proficiently. I believe it is the most ethical option for hunting as it requires less movement, shoots flatter trajectory or has better repeatability due to less variables to throw an arrow off course, and is a better option in cold conditions. There are pros n cons to both options.. and it is ultimately a personal choice. Regarding an option to shoot a crossbow…you could reach out to Niagara Falls Archery Club and the people there would help you with a wealth of knowledge…and membership with an intake process would allow you to shoot traditional / compound or crossbow at outdoor ranges. Sounds like you are on a budget…so you could reach out to Erie Tracker and explain that you are new to the sport and are looking for a used crossbow or compound bow…and let them know your financial maximum. They might have a used bow package for sale? Also..there is a good 3D archery shoot coming up at Dunnville Hunters and Anglers club on Good Friday April 7th. Check out website and You could attend that event even if you do not shoot and check out how these competitive fun shoots operate. Good luck…be safe…feel free to reach out if you have any further questions…Cheers!
  2. Yes…it has been a challenging spring with rain and especially high SW winds! Chocolate milk in river more often than not.
  3. With mild winter ticks will likely be active early this season. Here is a cheap homemade spray that in my opinion is safe for humans and dogs. *Avoid contact with face and eyes. Dollar Store: 1 litre spray bottles $3 Rexall: yellow Rexall brand Listerine mouth wash mix 9:1 ratio 9 parts yellow listerine to 1 part tap water shake and spray lightly on base layers (socks, under layers…especially inside boot or shoe tongues and around waist line), tuck socks into pant legs, spray liberally onto all outer garment layers, if Turkey hunting..I also spray inside of hoodies and pant waistline and also outside of all gear including face masks…hat, back packs, boots including bottoms, decoy bags, cushion, I carry a bottle with me to freshen up in the forest after a few hours. I have been using this for 2 years and it has been most effective! I still bring 2 large garbage bags (1 to put boots into and other to put clothes into for transport at end of hike). Still need to check for ticks after outings…and put clothes into dryer on high for 30 min to kill any live ticks. I find these little army tanks can survive dormant for days on gear and then find them crawling around in house or other days later. Can also spray dogs under coat with this spray. Note: not all ticks carry the bacteria that can cause Lyme disease…but the risk is high in Niagara, and ticks may also transmit other ailments. I do not use DEET anymore after it took the paint off some of my equipment…in my opinion I do not think it is as safe as this alternative…but that is my preference. Safe Hiking!
  4. Should be a good spring season! Ticks might be an issue with mild winter.
  5. Nice Shed finds! Any luck Pike fishing?
  6. Any idea what happened to the new boat ramp dock at Upper Niagara River near Peace Bridge (old Nichols Marine) location? I heard it was washed out during a wind event in 2022??
