Niagara River Report

Hit the Niagara yesterday (2pm) in the midst of a cold front rolling through (can anything slow the fishing down faster :)). Started fishing between the Queenston backdrift & the Queenston (Sandock) drift. Caught a smallie & a drum right away on a 3/4oz C.C. jigging spoon. Nothing moments after that, so we decided to try the Long drift. Nothing. Moved to the Upper Stella drift, samething... nothing. Tried the end of the Pine drift, another Sheepshead on a spoon. By this time the wind had switched around from the SW to NE & was blowing fairly good. Moved further down river to the Lime Wall got a few bass on Risto Raps(Shad) & Rick Clunn salt tubes(olive green/metallic green fleck) sprayed with a dose of Wild Hawg Crawfish scent. No one was fishing the Old Navy Hall hole. Tried it & popped a few more fish on Ristos, tubes & Berkley Power Minnows/darterhead jig. Continued fishing along the shoreline towards the marina & hooked a couple more fish on tubes, including a largie & a pike. Moved to the Coast Guard drift... nada. Made our way over to what use to be called the Lighthouse drift (I call it the Golf Course drift now) at the mouth. Managed to catch a handful of smallies drifting tubes, even through the 5ft rollers. By this time things were getting late, so we motored back to the Queenston drifts... nothing. So we called it a day. Ended up with 15 or 16 fish, which for the Niagara is a hard day of fishing. Hopefully things will change next week. BTW water visibility was 3-4ft with very little floating debris.

Great report. I'm certain things will improve the next time out!
