Minnow help

Hi everyone I'm looking into catching and holding my own minnows for fishing bait just so it's easier to have some instead of hunting down minnows when needed. My question is does anybody do this in a fish tank? I know I'd need a aerator to keep them alive, would they breed like crazy in the tank? Thanks guys.

I keep a tank ( heavy white plastic 40 gal barrel) in my unheated garage all winter starting in November & heat with a 60W  light bulb under the tank. I usually catch my own but I missed the fall runs last Nov.so I bought some from Peter's & some were donated by fellow angler Bubba14 . I still have some in the tank , using the air pump that I've had for many years .

As the water warms they start dying off and go into the salt bag . I feed them goldfish flakes every few days & siphon  the crap from the bottom monthly using a 50' garden hose & add water which has sat for a couple days to rid it of chlorine .

I think you could keep a few dozen in a cool place like the basement when the temps reach over 20*C. outside for a limited time . You may find more info on Google ( You Tube) etc. on how to keep them alive for longer periods. (  large pop bottles full of ice)
