Was out in the Timmins area again this year, up on Horwood lake.  Along with us was my 80 year old mother who loves fishing.  Walleye were tough to find because of the heat, staying on the bottom in 30-40ft.  Same with the pike.   perch and smallies were just crazy. Plenty of good sized perch. As for the smallmouth, I lost track of how many footballs we boated. These are not Erie type fish.  They do not get the length, but they are as round as they are long. We boated hundreds of fish over 5 days, and that was with only fishing 1/2 days.  The afternoons were too hot to stay out.

Those are some fat bass and nice perch. I’d love to get up there for some fishing.

It's a bit of a drive at 10+ hours., but well worth it for the scenery, wildlife, and... most important, the fishing. Have not been disappointed yet. The folks that run Horwood Lake lodge are good people. Doris and Warren will treat you well, individually, or as a group.

Nice fish and great scenery! What depths of water were you fishing for the Smallmouth?  How far from the dock is the fishing?

The smallies were in 6-20ft of water, putting on a feedbag of minnows and crayfish.  Good fishing starts 100ft from the dock to 10km and everywhere in between.  Truth is we only left the bay once to search for walleye.

Question is whether there is enough interest in this group?   The lodge has 8 cabins with accommodations from 2 - 6 people per cabin.  Meal plan available, and a fleet of boats.  Best available weeks are August, September.  The rates would depend on the body count.  The regular American plan rate is over $1300 pp per week.
