Hey everyone,

I just moved to Niagara Falls and joined the forum to learn more about fishing in the area.

I’m a catch-and-release-only angler and enjoy targeting all the species Niagara has to offer. I’m not looking for anyone’s secret spots—just hoping for some general advice and a bit of guidance!

Quick Questions:

  • Sir Adam Beck:
Is fishing allowed here? I couldn’t find season dates on the Ontario regulations site, so any info would be helpful.

  • Niagara River:
From what I’ve seen on Google Maps and YouTube, it looks tricky to fly fish here—there doesn’t seem to be a lot of room for casting, and I’d prefer not to wade through the river. Any tips for this area?

  • Brown Trout:
Catching a brown trout in Ontario has been a dream of mine. If anyone has advice on techniques or general locations (nothing specific, of course), I’d really appreciate it!

Thanks in advance for any pointers you can share!

SAB highly doubtful.

Go down and explore the NR. Get your answer at the source.

Talk with and observe the fishermen there. Ask questions, offer to net a fish. See what they're using.

I think I’ve seen guys fly fishing the whirlpool. Definitely need the right gear to fish the heavy currents.
If you wanna catch a brown with a spin rod cast out a 3way set up and bottom bounce roe. Find a boat launch or public park along the river and get out there sooner then later. Shore fishing should be good the next couple months.

You can’t fish Sir Adam Beck from shore.  Access all closed off and private , no trespassing. You can fish it from a boat with an experienced boater.

There are soooo many places to fish the Niagara from boat or shore.  There are many places with room to cast.  The whirlpool is popular, lots of space.  All species can be caught there depending on season (brown trout, steelhead, salmon, small mouth bass, walleye, musky, carp).  The Niagara Glen is less popular but equally rewarding if you put the time in to learn how to fish the currents and read the water.

Brown trout are easy to catch in spring and fall, especially from a boat.   They will be somewhat shallow in Lake Ontario and are stacked up in The Niagara River in spots.

The local fishing stores also will help you with any questions about locations, setting up rigs, spool your lines, and help set you up with the right rod/reel combos.

I hope we get a colder winter for us ice fishing dudes and buy live minnows this winter.

Hoping for that to, I usually travel down to Idaho for the ice fishing there, lake trout currently have a bounty on them at the lake I fish, good eating and 15 bucks a head and the pike there is crazy, a fat 5lb is considered small. the average size right now is 10-20lb.

Pike are very good eating up 10 lbs. appprox. I like using a float and live chubs for them and tossing swim baits (soft water) . For ice, jigging spoons and live bait .

Keeps those Idaho spuds handy !   😄

Yeah got a few in my freezer that I was able to bring over, same way we fish there just no live bait we catch blue gill and perch in the spring and just freeze them to use in the fall and winter.
