rick
When trout fishing from shore I use a 11.5' shakespeare noodle rod, and if drifting from the boat I use a 9'.

Guest Eyelike2fish
I guess I should have been more specific. Do you need a longer rod to land the fish around the ice? I use a 9.5 ft and was wondering if the ice along the shores warrant a longer rod. Thanks for the reply's so far.
F,O,G
no you dont need a longer rod just a net with a long handle so your not standing on the edge of the shore ice.....the shore ice there gets undercut by the water level going up and down all day so big pieces will break off...just be carefull ...use the handle of your net to bang the ice when your first down to see how far the is really is..
