Dont have pics but use your imagination.

Did a tour today of Hammy harbour along Eastport Drive. There are a group of man made islands not far off shore which have a few trees on each and every one of them. Every single tree was chock full of nesting cormorants and along with the @#$#birds there was at least 50 gulls for each and everyone of them.

With the gulls being the scavengers they are would think any hatchlings would be picked off before they reach maturity.

happens all the time in an area of Sugarloaf harbour too..out by the breakwall thereis a cormorant rookery and tonnes of seagulls as well. I don't know if it will continue or not but with help from a local aviary and some volunteers in Port Colbourne area, they used to bring a few cages with hawks in them out onto the breakwall to help keep away the other birds in hopes that the terns in the area could nest and rear thier eggs

Actually Jack we attempted to build tern nesting beds by bolting curbs on the Peir East of the cormorant nests. Behind the curbs we laid gravel, then Dave Gibson our guest speaker in Fort Erie 2 months ago brought the red tail hawks. We rolled a few seagull eggs out and a few terns returned to nest but nothing significant yet.

Not sure if they'll do it again this year but it will be during the tern nesting season if it does.
