Time to start a boycott

Well I recently read in the paper that Niagara Action for Animals (NAFA) was holding a fundraiser here in Fort Erie. NIMBY!

I went to their website and read the whole thing. They mainly promote spay and neuter programs for stray cats and vegetarian diets. I saw no indication of a anti hunting agenda.

So I called the number and began asking questions about the event, cause and where the money gets spent. I came right out and asked if they dabbled in politics of any kind and I was told NO! Wow I've actually found a group interested in helping animals (pets) who promote and practice what they preach and don't try to force others to live my their code of ethics. I may actually contribute to something like that because all of the other groups who have the hidden agenda make good groups like this one look bad and that's damaging to the end recipient. The animals!

Well guess what? Ninepointer informs me that NAFA wrote a submission to the Town of Grimsby in support of a heavily restricted firearms bylaw that would prevent hunting from being reopened in the rural areas. This one single animal advocate group that I was amazed didn't have the hidden agenda has now caused me to deny any animal welfare organization assistance or funds from myself and I'm spreading the word.

ARA's just plain well lie, twist words and deceive anyone and everyone to get to US! Yes they help animals and yes I do respect them for going strictly veg but to say to me that they stay away from politics and even went as far as to say feel free to bring some venison scraps for the kitty's then turn around a tell Council to disallow us our right to hunt was misleading and the end recipient who gets screwed is????????????????????????? the animals they say their trying to protect.

Here's a list of sponsors from the NAFA web site. Call them and tell them why you don't like being misled and explain why they should have their name removed from the NAFA website or look up the definition of boycott.

A list of businesses and donors who will be contacted or boycotted. Especially the first one.

Here's the letter that started this rant. Please call their sponsors and let them know what they've been up to. Maybe if they get a big enough response they'll stick to helping kitty's in the future. Make sure you call NAFA and Coyote watch (Lesley Sampson) and tell them what you think of their efforts to trample our rights in the name of the pets they claim to protect.

"To members of Grimsby town council,

Help coyotes in Niagara (please!)

Hounds are used to hunt coyotes and this method is archaic and extremely cruel!

'In response to the recent decision by Niagara Region to allow a one-year pilot project hunting coyotes in a woodlot

surrounding the Niagara Road 12 landfill, we ask that you have this move revoked. This decision was made by the Region

due to pressure from a few individuals that want to hunt coyote for sport. Please note the Region's decision was based

purely on accounts from Cathie Richardson of the MNR endorsing that coyote numbers are up. No studeis, no population

density research conducted by the MNR whatsoever to validate her claims.

Sightings of coyotes over the past year prompted calls to the MNR from 'around 20 people' (MNR told me). This is how the

MNR figure the number of coyotes have increased.

Sightings of coyotes in the same territory is usually the same animal. Does this represent an increase in coyotes??

Talk about calls taken out of context..by the MNR. MNR, two farmers (OFAH members) and OFAH were the major and only

players who had input on the table. Unscientific, inaccurate, misinformation provided to the Regional Council.

Sound science and public education/public input were not included in the report. (From Lesley Sampson, St Davids, who

has spent years studying coyotes in the wild www.coyotewatchcanada.com).

The region has also set a dangerous precedent in aligning themselves with a minority representation from OFAH (Ontario

Federation of Anglers and Hunters). These same members of OFAH are pressuring Grimsby to change their present Firearm

Discharge bylaw to allow hunting in Grimsby boundaries using the same rhetoric applied at the Regional office.

Jan Yates (on behalf of Niagara Action for Animals)

Grimsby"

Its kind of like the SPCA; an organization that does a huge amount of great work and provides a tremendously beneficial service to many communities, BUT there's also a political agenda.

We all know that the SPCA was a major supporter of proposed Federal animal cruelty legistation; legislation that ultimately would have left little daylight between a fisherman knocking a fish on the head and a nutcase skinning a cat alive.

Since the animal crulety legislation failed, the SPCA is now trying a different tactic. They've recently been peddling a "model" animal control by-law to Ontario municpalities, asking municipalities to adopt it. Unfortunately the "model" by-law goes way beyond licensing dogs or regulating kennels. Its Version 2.0 of the animal cruelty legislation.

Well today I dropped in to Pet Value and explained that as long as their name was on that website, I'll be buying my dogs food at the mill instead. I also dropped a copy of that letter in NAFA's (fort erie) mailbox.

I'm guessing this girl in Fort Erie is clueless. Maybe we just need to have a good chat before their fund raising dinner. If she knew about the PETA connection and understood what PETA's motives really were, she'd likely freak. Seems all these independent pet groomers have been fooled.

Derek I'd like details on that 2.0 if you don't mind so I can warn my municipality.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well me and the girl in Fort Erie had a nice chat tonight. She claims that the letter writer is a new member and that her submission was not a NAFA release and that measures have been taken to ensure it doesn't happen again. Although "Tammy" in Fort Erie sounded sincere, I've been duped before and refuse to lower my guard too far. Perhaps Tammy is now a victim of past ARA's that way but we came to a concensus.

I will not contact their sponsors or hold a protest at this weekends fundraiser. This does not mean that nothing will be planned if NAFA pulls a Jack in the Box and says surprise! We lied too! That will only compound the backlash. It was actually amusing to speak with her because she was preparing for some problems at this weekends veggie fundraiser. It would have only escalated both our stances and maybe put NAFA where they're claiming not to be.

I encouraged Tammy to sway her animals counterparts to write a rebuttal and clarify the NAFA letter was only a personal view of a member and was unauthorized. This would show good faith and perhaps we as outdoorsmen/women could have a place to work with needy domesticated animals who are abused or needy, and do so without cutting our own throats. Its not fair that ARA's hold cute little puppies and kittens like a shield so they can carry on their agendas unscathed. I know I am one of the few willing to take a shot at them despite the public fall out I'll receive. Sooner or later the regular Joe will see through the ARA facade.

So lets hope we see that correction in Niagara This Week soon. And Tammy if your reading this, visit the link above. Seems even animal advocates are slitting their own throats when the support extremists like PETA. :Gonefishing:
