fishing in odd places

These are a couple of stories that I think are the cooles things that I had heard of in a long time. :Gonefishing:

I had heard a story once about a man who was renovating his basement in New york and that his house had been built over a filled in creek that continued to flow and it said that there was green moss on the sides of the underground creek and that the man went fishing in it and caught several fish. I found this story and it is in the link provided below.

In Turkey, Istanbul in the 1500s a dutch traveller had heard reports of people drilling holes in their basenments and fishing and catching fish. This lead to the re-discover of the Basillica Cistern which was a large stone walled ornate chamber built underground in the 500s A.D. The purpose of this cistern was to provide the Ottoman empire with water. It was lost sometime after the 1000s but before that I think it was stocked with fish (carp to provide a food source soon after the Basillica was walled over possibly due to was or because they had found a better water source. Today there is tourism in this cistern on a boardwalk that goes through it. There are still lots of carp and this site evn still serves as a fishing hole for locals.

Also I saw a story where a man was walking by a park and heard splashing coming from a storm drain and when he looked into it he saw some fish feeding off the surface of the water so he went home got his fishing rod and went back to the spot. He removed the grate and using a beetle for bait proceeded to catch a creek chub. I found the picture.

Another story I had read was in england where a couple of fisherman had put their lines into a hole in a stormwater pipe going to the sea and they ended up catching 5 eels.

And last but not least those extremely channelized creeks with the concrete siding that makes them look like open sewers. Originally I thought that there are no fish in them but in Singapore they had creeks like this and using a net these people have managed to catch a few fair sized fish.

Has anyone ever fished and caught fish in wierd spots like these?

Near where I work, there are several older gentlemen (70's and 80's) who can't hike the trail to the Niagara Gorge anymore.

Their solution is ingenious.

In the Fall, they start out with breakfast at "Dads Diner on Victoria Ave".

Then go to the "White Water Walk, AKA Great Gorge Adventure" http://www.niagaraparks.com/nfgg/whitewater.php

They take the elevator down and fish for Salmon for the day, then take the elevator back up at the end of the day.

A few years ago the parks instituted a Season's Pass, which saves them loads of money http://www.niagaraparks.com/nfgg/Seasons-pass.php

I know all of this because one of them calls me from "Dad's Diner" every morning asking what colour the water is.
