fishfight
I am looking for uncured or uncook Giant monster Maiz(corn), the size of a Nickel. I went through the website and even tried enquiring through some farm feed store michigan state during one of my vacation trip, so far hardly anyone seen the big size. Do they exist in North America? ron4blues
Check with some of the carpers on the board. Hammercarp showed me some last summer, and I'm pretty sure he'll tell you where to find some.
Dan Andrews
I'm betting he'll have some at the outdoor show on the weekend. He had some pretty big corn the last two years.
ontariocarper
Price Choppers and No Frills carry them in 1lb bags dried. Ethnic foods section or dried foods. It's impossible to find big quantities.
spottedGARRR
Funny how this works, if corn were a popular choice for trout everyones lips would be sealed ;D
Dan Andrews
Yes the carp anglers are very sociable people who want to help and the more the merrier. Their typically people who respect the environment and don't litter also. Hey maybe you carp guys can encourage one of our local shops to ship it in bulk. I know the guy in Welland has been talking about specializing in carp gear and baits.
hammercarp
Hello Fishfight. You can also by it at Portuguese grocery stores here in Hamilton , it is $1.99 / lb. This is slightly cheaper than the stuff from NoFrills and you can buy as much or little as you want. It is white in colour. It is not sold in Feed Stores because it is not fed to animals. fishfight
The one I saw at no frills Toronto stores are actually not too big size corn. I won't be going to hamilton area until April carp season. Hammercarp, Can you post an image of the size corn that the portuguese store carries. Thanks. I bumped into another European carp angler last year, I told him I was able to land carp under 15 lber using canned corn. However, the gobies and other bullheads were stealing them often. He mentioned that if I want to catch consistent 20lber + carp. I need to use the larger size corn to prevent other smaller species from stealing them. Many of the giant carp fish will be coming close to Downtown toronto area during spring time. I also notice another Carp angler fishing beside me were catching 3 times more than I do. He has a bait holder container attached to his line that releases corn in one small pile after each cast, rather than us spreading or chumming corn all over. Not exactly sure I understand the concept of chumming all over versus putting a bunch of corn on one spot. Anyone knows the name of the container that does such action? I went through Carp world website and not sure if they have the same container that can close and then automatically opens after a cast.
ontariocarper
Another option would be buying it prepared from NWC.
hammercarp
Fishfight Ontario carper has a good idea. One container should last you all season. The stuff you saw in NoFrills needs to be soaked and boiled. It will swell up. Here's a picture of some I prepared. It was soaked in coloured water and boiled.
ron4blues
HEHE. . . that picture doesn't do justice to the size of those kernels. Hammercarp has big hands.
