rile
Went up to our cottage on a small lake in the north frontenac region near lake kashwakmak. Got up friday after noon and had to leave on sunday due to the incoming storms. First day only managed 2 fish a 25" pike, which was nice to see since out lake hardly has any pike and a 23" walleye that we were forced to keep due to being hooked in the gills( normally like to keep smaller ones.) They were both caught just minutes from each other while trolling off the same shoal with a rapala tail dancer in perch. Fished all day saturday without a bite. Tried every thing. The highlight of the day was spotting some monster smallies in the shallows, one was so big i thought it was a carp at first, but then realized theres no carp in the lake. Had to be 6-7lbs. Fished the first couple of hours of the last day without a bite, then just before heading in decided to try casting a tree that had held walleye before. within 20 minutes we caught 7 from 15"-23". Hit another spot similar in structure across the lake and got 5 more from 20"-16". Kept another 17". Also spotted a nesting loon on a shoreline but then we had to head in due to the weather. Fish were caught on twister tails and gulp steelhead worms on 1/4 jig heads. Looking to get the boat out on fort erie this weekend for walleye and possibly trout but have no idea where to start, are they still in the river? Any tips to point us in the right direction would be much appreciated, thanks.
