Glass Bead Eyes Made Easy

I mentioned in another thread that I use a method for attaching glass beads for eyes that I find to be very simple. I promised to do the step-by-step, so here it is!

Step 1: Cover your hook with thread.

Step 2: Wind your thread to the mid-way point of the shank.

Step 3: Tie in a short section of light monofilament with 2-3 turns of thread, making sure that the mono runs along the side of the shank.

Step 4: Tie in another section of mono on the other side of the shank.

Step 5: Wind the thread forward, being careful to keep the sections of mono on their respective sides of the shank. Don't wind the thread closer than 1/8" from the hook eye.

Step 6: Thread a single glass bead onto one of the pieces of mono.

Step 7: Double the mono back and secure it with 2-3 turns of thread, once again keeping it along the side of the shank.

Step 8: Repeat the process on the other side.

Step 9: Secure with a few figure-eight turns then wind your thread back to the 1/2 way point then trim off the excess mono.

Step 10: Finish tying your fly.
