floatman
I was reading another thread here about fishing gear for Florida. Great info given, and appreciated by me and I'm sure the OP! So, I will be in Pt Charlotte for Christmas, and I'm wondering what may be in season, and what baits/gear I might nead? It sounds like there is lots of informed knowledge on the options here! Any hints on where to head to would be most appreciated!
DaveC
Fish any of the passes or mangroves and back waters for snook and redfish. I think snook are all C&R after mid December though. Non the less great fighting fish. Finding live bait pinfish with just some weight and pitch it right up tight to the mangroves. Helps if you chum 4-5 fish right up close. Great fighting fish...great eating too but im almost certain they are C&R only at that time. Local shops give you the best tips though...have fun!!! The guides ive fish with all use 50lb braid with 3' 20 lb floro tippet. Regular 8-9 ft rod spinning reel.

DaveC
Thats not until early spring....would love the chance to fish Boca Grande though. Tide has a lot to do with what you can catch and where. The best thing is to talk to local shops they follow the tide charts closely. Any pass where it opens into the gulf is going to have fish.
