Dunkirk Power Plant Pier

I am not sure exactly where to post this but figured I would give it a shot. I live 2hours from there and have heard a lot about it but never been there. The power plants in Ohio where I have have been very hit or miss the past few years. What can I expect if I fish here? Is it always loaded with guys and you have to get there early this time of year to get a spot? i know fishing is always a wild card but is it one of those spots where you really need to be there at the right time or can you expect this time of year to consistently catch something? And finally would it be an advantage to take my kayak? Yes I know I am crazy but if weather conditions are good I don't have a problem. Thanks in advance. I apologize for all of the questions but there isn't a ton online about this place.
