As I’m sure a lot of you are aware, Muskies Canada Inc, in partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (OMNR), is attempting to restore the native muskellunge population to Lake Simcoe. Project funding has been minimal thus far and without a substantial increase in funding, the project is in imminent danger of collapse. Obtaining eggs, raising fingerlings, providing feed and the expertise to build a viable self sustaining fishery (not a ‘put and take' fishery) is expensive. Recognizing immediate intervention needed to be taken the daunting task of organizing one of Ontario’s largest fishing and outdoor lotteries began. The Lake Simcoe Muskie Lottery was created, of which 100% of the profits will be applied to the Lake Simcoe Muskellunge Restoration Project.
