rick
...DRAMATIC WEATHER CHANGES IN STORE THIS WEEK... THE WINTER OF 2004-05 HAS BEEN RELATIVELY MILD BUT CHANGEABLE SO FAR ACROSS WESTERN AND CENTRAL NEW YORK. THIS TREND WILL BE MAGNIFIED THE NEXT FEW DAYS AS WE RIDE THE METEOROLOGICAL "ROLLER COASTER". TEMPERATURES WILL SOAR TO NEAR RECORD LEVELS LATER WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY BEFORE DROPPING SHARPLY TO MIDWINTER COLD DURING FRIDAY AND ON THROUGH THE UPCOMING WEEKEND. A WARM FRONT WILL CROSS OUR REGION DURING WEDNESDAY AND BE ACCOMPANIED BY RAIN SHOWERS. TEMPERATURES WILL RISE INTO THE 50S LATER IN THE DAY ACROSS WESTERN AREAS AND WELL INTO THE 40S EAST OF LAKE ONTARIO. THE MERCURY SHOULD REMAIN STEADY OR EVEN RISE FURTHER WEDNESDAY NIGHT AS A SOUTHERLY FLOW INCREASES. TEMPERATURES ON THURSDAY COULD REACH THE LOWER TO MID 60S...WARMEST ACROSS THE GENESEE VALLEY....BEFORE A SHARP COLD FRONT APPROACHES DURING THE AFTERNOON WITH AN INCREASING CHANCE OF SHOWERS. ALTHOUGH SOME RAIN WILL ACCOMPANY THIS WARMUP...IT DOES NOT LOOK SUBSTANTIAL...GENERALLY LESS THAN HALF AN INCH. THE LIMITED SNOWPACK ACROSS THE REGION WILL MELT...BUT THE RUNOFF SHOULD NOT BE ENOUGH TO CAUSE SIGNIFICANT HYDROLOGICAL PROBLEMS. OUR REGION WILL THEN EXPERIENCE AN ABRUPT RETURN TO REALITY FOLLOWING THE FRONTAL PASSAGE AS TEMPERATURES PLUNGE INTO THE 20S BY FRIDAY MORNING. THEY WILL REMAIN BELOW NORMAL THROUGH THE UPCOMING WEEKEND...GENERALLY IN THE TEENS OR LOWER 20S. THE LAKES ARE ALL WIDE OPEN SO THERE WILL BE SOME LAKE EFFECT SNOW...BUT LOCATION AND TIMING IS STILL IN DOUBT. THIS CHANGE TO COLDER WEATHER LOOKS TO BE AN EXTENDED ONE...LASTING WELL INTO NEXT WEEK.

rick
Should be ok the next few days. Tonight East winds 10 to 15 mph. Wednesday East winds 10 to 15 mph...becoming south around 10 mph in the afternoon. Wednesday Night South winds 15 to 20 mph. Thursday Windy with highs around 60. Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph. (This should screw things up just in time for the weekend. What else is new this year) Thursday Night Breezy. West winds 15 to 25 mph.

rick
what direction makes the river dirty! thanks for the wind update! 6575 Strong west or SW winds on Lake Erie really stir things up in the river for a few days. Sure would be nice to have the lake freeze up soon as this eliminates the problem.
charlieD
yes that would definately be nice...looks like crappy river for the rest of the week! Darn!
Guest chilli
Southwest. The upper was starting to clear on the Canadian side today but you could see the brown on the other side of the ditch. There was a stiff East wind which was stirring up this side slightly. Found this earlier. Wind If you have Java installed, this will show you the winds on the upper. East means your casting into the wind and the fish get finicky. West to Southwest means it's crashing into Buffalo and messing up the water at the mouth. See the thread in shooting the breeze about webcams for more of the same links. Darn! 6580 Actually I'm thinking that it shouldn't be too bad at Queenston the latter part of this week, but should be crappy for the weekend. It takes a day or two AFTER the SW winds to screw things up in the river and since the winds are from the east right now and for part of tomorrow, visiblity might be ok up til Friday. I might try some shore stuff this week down there when we get that warmer air.
