charlieD
Anyone ever fish the ganaraska river in Port Hope! At least the open season part! Is it worth a trip to fish this time of year!
medlanch
I've fished the Gani a few times before the season was open. I don't think I've ever fished it this time of year, more around March, so i can't comment on whether it would be good or not. It's a pretty productive river though, if you don't mind the crowds. I'm sure there must be a message board out there that focuses more on that neck of the woods.
Guest cplummer
i've fished it last year pretty much this time of the year on the pier caught 3 using minnows !! tried brown roe only had one fish on .. the water is usually super clear this time of the year so .. use a long noodle rod with 4lb test max... cliff... medlanch
Micro-tube jigs fished under a float worked really well when I last fished the Gani. White was the hot colour at the time. Your 12' rod would do just fine, but if the water is really clear this time of year, you might want to spool up some 4-6lbs test. Good Luck

T.C.
Charlie, just run a leader of 6 or 4lb and if water is super clear run florocarbon. There's no need to totally re-spool.
rick
The basic setup that I use is I have the florocarbon just for the leader line (6lb) which should be 4-6 feet long, and 8 lb test mono for the main line on a 11.5 ft. noodle rod. Charlie your rod should be just fine.
