smerchly
Some people on Facebook have said they covered their plants in case of frost tonight . I have 11 tomato plants that are thriving well and I have about 15 wire mesh plastic coated waste baskets from the buck store (5 yrs ago) . I inverted the baskets & use Walmart bags over them to keep the frost away ......has worked for me a few times . They say the 24th of May should be safe in our zone ....but don't count on it ! cplummer
I always plat the garden May 25th and never hit frost. Seen many of plants lost to people who planted before that though.
GreenPark
Last night on my close friends nursery in Fenwick. That's one way to keep the frost away!
smerchly
That chopper would help , but must be costly ......Some farms have small wind mills to move the air . There was some frost on my garage roof this morning at 6 am . ...glad I bagged the tomatoes ....other plants like peas , & beets etc. seem to stand up to the cold better . I forgot about my up-side-down tomato plant hanging from the apple tree ....survived ok , 5' off the ground .
dave524
They say the 24th of May should be safe in our zone ....but don't count on it ! Today is only the 23rd, I always go with the real 24th, rounding off to the Monday preceding for a 3 day weekend and then planting on the Saturday of that weekend gets people in trouble. Bubba14
I only planted six tomatoe plants, two per planter and just moved them indoors when there was the threat of frost.
bigugli
There was heavy frost in K-W Saturday morning with a temperature of -2. Lots of people losing plants. The windmills in the graperies work quite well. One windmill produces enough airflow for appx. 4 acres. The other cheat, as shown in the photo, is to soak the plants before nightfall, so as to keep young fruit buds from freezing. We've held off on planting our 4000 plants because of the cold night temps.

dave524
I'm only a stone's throw from the lake so that big puddle keeps me out of the danger zone, top of the escarpment here though is several degrees colder at night. On the other hand I step out and grab a jacket cause it's cool here and go downtown and it like 70 + degrees there
