FishyWishy
Is there any use in trying to catch fish at Dufferin Islands? Can't recall ever seeing anyone fishing down there. FW

bigugli
Many years back, I recall a fish release down at the park from a kids derby. Something to do with restocking the pond after a fish kill. Everything you could imagine was in those tanks.
fisherguy889
I was down there last week, I saw few rock bass swimming around. The water is very clear right now and there no vegetation in the water. The parks most of cleaned it up or it always looks like this at this time of year. FishyWishy
Is there anyway for fish populations from the river to get in? or is it closed off some how? Its a shame that there isn't anything/much in there as I think it would be a great place to bing the kiddies. And it is right by my house. How could one go about opening dialogue to have it stocked? say with pan fish?

denis
Still lots of suckerscarp and theoccasional Koi. I've seen muskie every time I've been there for the past 5 years. Fish with a worm and a bobber and you will catch fish
Snoopy23
During the summer months, you can catch a bunch of smaller bass and some panfish where the water exits Duff. Fish either side of the bridge but the best is the river side just above the little dam
Guest IBC
the parks cut most of the water off to it as they did some construction on parts of the intake the past few summers .... tons of carp and suckers ... rainbows used to be in there and might be once more. over the years it has filled in with silt and what not as well and has become much shallower than what it used to be .. personally i would love to see it dredged up as all the decaying leaves cant be too healthy especially when there was no circulation with minimal water being pumped through while they were working on it

floatmaster
there are tonnes of carp in there i work for the parks comission im down there every few days behind the island its shallow but thats hwere ive alwayse had luck and there are gates by the bridge and i adjust them for water flow only about once or twice a season even if fish did get in it would be offly hard for them to survive the carp that have been in there have been there for a wile years ago when the water level was high the carp could swim over the dams now if the carp get in they cant get past the dams theirfore they get stuck in the =first pool before the bridge sometimes when hydro adjusts the flow a the powerstation the waterlevel dropps over a foot and you can see the carp flopping around in inches of water

Phil R
So I guess there would be no sense in stocking with pan fish. When I was there as a kid I'd catch everything, the odd small pike, suckers, carp, small mouth and large mouth... the last few years I havent seen anything other than big carp in there, and even last year there were only a few, I haven't seen any yet this year. jwl
a few years back, well probably more like 10 by now, it was stocked as well with lots of fish..with the intent of it being a catch and release fishery and fish sanctuary area, there where signs and stuff posted around the water..they stocked bass in there, a few small muskies and such..I have even seen decent sized trout in there before...cats..channel cats. I don't know what ever happened to the notion of a catch and release fish sactuary though there..never hear anything about that...maybe the guy who says he works for the Parks Commision (float master) has some insite into this. I figured out a cool thing about catching carp in there years ago....after spending a bunch of time there carp fishing for somehting to do, I noticed that a bunch of big carp where hanging out around this one area and swimming under the ducks...well as it turns out, the ducks where knocking these little red berries into the water and eating them...all the ones the ducks missed..the carp where right under them picking up the leftovers...so for a laugh me and my buddy tried putting a couple of these little berries on the hook....sure enough, the carp that where around went right after them.,..we had a blast playing with them for a while
feldie
You can catch some bass, panfish, a lot of suckers, and Musky. And my Friend and I have seen a musky that had to be at least 50 inches. <a href="http://s233.photobucket.com/albums/ee66/feldie/?action=view¤t=MUSKY-Summer2006DufferinIslands1of2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee66/feldie/MUSKY-Summer2006DufferinIslands1of2.jpg" border="0" alt="MUSKY - Summer, 2006, Dufferin Islands 1 of 2 caught within 10 min and a 3rd lost."></a>
longmayyourun
The Level of Dufferin Islands fluctuates depending on the water drawn by Ontario Hydro. The flow of the river depends on the time of year and day. During the summer more water is taken between 11:00 pm and 8:00am. The maximum amount of water is also taken between Nov 1st and April 1st. The south Ponds often become dry at these times. The North Pond, closest to the Falls however has water in it year round. If you do decide to try to fish at Duf you will have more success on the North shore by the road. Fish can enter the ponds under "the dam" or through a pipe from the river on the east side, which flows year round. If you have no luck there you might want to try the North shore of Kingsbridge Park off the old boat dock (cement)
