I do....at both locations! Yeah, its been a while. Steve Wells introduced me to walleye in Port, for example. Peter was definitely able to fill his shoes.

I'll second that Drifter! :worthy:

I also remember Steve Wells at both locations, he was a great source of specialized steelhead/salmon gear.

Anyone else remember when he used to run that old tri-hull boat out on the lake that he used to affecionately

refer to as " The Sub ". cause it leaked so bad.

I remember the boat, however never had the thrill of experiencing it. I was just gettin into steelheading and he provided many good pointers too.

Just a note while talking about former tackle providers in St. Kitts, Joe Bezo (Melody Trail - The Mitchell Man and Reel Repair Specialist), not sure if your aware but he recently passed away month or so ago. He was a good guy too. I can remember going there after school back in the day and browzin around, as a kid guys like Steve Wells, Bezo, Peter Lee - all north end guys - inspired me to continue to learn about and promote healthy fishing. Thanks guys.

I wasn't backing down, I do support the local tackle and just wanted everyone to know that... and that I'm still going to bass pro shop lol

No worries Diltsy, I just hate the big box stores and their so called sales with overpriced product.

Geeze , I remember Steve Wells & his wife well . Bezo was a real nice man , had reel repairs done by him . Anyone old enough to remember the Welland Ave tackle /bait shop ? He was hard to find sometimes but he was an option if needed . If you are older than dirt there was a tackle bait shop on Rooker RD . ...yep owned by Ted R. who had a commercial boat . .....I see his wife just passed on in todays paper . I saw them together less than a yr. ago at Timmies in Port Dal. and they both looked in top health ......

I remember the Rookers as well (couldn't see the house for the boat!). Believed their son played hockey. That is too bad about his wife. Thanks for the info.

:dunno: That place in port stole my reel, took it in for a repair and the guy closed down the next day. I could see my reel sitting on the shelf, went back a day a later and the place was empty...... :) if he knew he was shutting down he could of just said they don't do reel repairs.....

I like to go to BPS just to drool over the 14 pound largie in the tank......

Can't remember the name....

As far as I know the largies are still there. There were two of them the last time I was there. I couldn't even imagine having one of the those on the end of the line. The big smallies in there came from Lake Simcoe. I think they are 7+lbs. Feeding time is supposed to be incredible but I've never seen it.

Eastside Bait & Tackle.....got broken into too many time. Rooker (road named after him) closed it down. The old boats and such were removed. The original shack was left, somebody else bought it, reopened to specialize in trout and salmon....broke into again too many times, insurance went up, closed down. City came down and made it to what you see today......WHEW! :):dunno:

Eastside's - Yes I remember it well, thanks for mentioning, they were actually the first place that I started purchasing terminal tackle for salmon/trout. one of the places that inspired me to start salmon and trout fishing, i mean right along the banks lined with anglers, what else could you want. Living in Port as a kid, going to Eastsides was always a thrill, I mean no car at the time but could get to the place by bike made it ideal. I can remember starting out seeing these things I believed called 'Bumper Bows' (something like that)...at the time I thought 'holy crap those things catch fish', boy did I sure learn quickly! Also a special memory I have is when the barge was placed along the wall just at Eastsides, I have never caught so many silver bass in my life!
