rick
A prolonged period of snow is expected to begin across the region on Monday and continue through midweek as a complex weather system develops. Low pressure developing over the Gulf of Mexico will lift northeast along the Atlantic coast during the next 48 hours. Meanwhile another low developing over Minnesota will slide southeast across the Great Lakes. Snow is forecast to overspread the region Monday with accumulations of 1 to 3 inches possible by the evening rush hour. The steady snow will continue Monday night with additional accumulations likely. As the lows lift to the Canadian Maritimes and the snow continues on Tuesday, winds will become northeast and some lake enhancement is possible along the South Shore of Lake Ontario. As the winds back to northwest later Tuesday, Lake effect snows are expected to develop Tuesday night and Wednesday. Although accumulations of several inches in any twelve hour period are possible... more significant will be the prolonged period of snowfall over several days... from Monday through Wednesday. Remember though... because the storms have not yet become organized there is still uncertainty about the intensity and paths they will take... and changes in either the intensity or path could significantly impact the amount of snow the area receives.
