This seems to be the year of the smelt ......just read Niagarafishers post below & he mentioned smelts are in the lake from top to bottom . More smelts at Port this year also .....which may be feeding the larger fish like trout & pike, to our detriment .....We may end up going for a few smelts tomorrow if fishing is a no go at other spots . fishhard2 Posted February 3, 2009 Report Share Posted February 3, 2009 I was there on Sunday afternoon. There are thousands of smelt in there now. All you need is a hook and a piece of red wool. They grab on and up they come. Caught all mine 4 feet under the ice site fishing in hut. Was a blast. They are also pretty thick in the Grand making walleye fishing pretty tough.
