dr_feelgood
I have 2 Mitchell 300 reels that have never been used. Does anyone know how to tell the age and value of them?

bigugli
Up until 1971, I think, there was no consistent set of serial or identification marks on the reels. Some were labelled "made in France", some not. Some had serial numbers, others not. Some had "A" or "B" as a prefix to the serial number. There just was no consistent tracking in the early models. After 1971 all seriall numbers have an alpha prefix for a given year A=1971, B=1972, etc...
ontariocarper
I have a few in collection. Garcia Mitchell's 300, they go for about $25-$30 depending on condition and if they come with extra spool, spool case or box/papers. I've seen a complete reel go for $60. Great reels, not worth alot though.

mooseslayer
I still use the one I got as a kid about 35 years ago. I had it fixed up with shims, bail spring etc once or twice but it is still going strong.
